How do you SFWD civics make weight?
Last I saw, min. weight was 2400 lbs with driver (1 power adder). Last time I raced, my car weighed 2315 lbs with me in it. Its an EG hatch with a prelude motor, no passenger seat (~15 lbs), no carpet (~10 lbs). All body panels and glass are stock and I haven't done any weight savings (purposely). So do you guys add ballast?
And don't give me **** about not having a pass. seat and carpet, I know I need it to compete in sfwd.

Lead shot.. You can add it to round or square tubing in the front of the car, either horizontally over the lower front support or somehow over the tires.... Well ultimately you can add it anywhere (duh) but these are the spots that are popular

more mcdonalds and taco bell = heavier driver
lead seems to be the choice of most -- mount it where you feel it is most appropriate
we generally had about 75 pounds of ballast on the car when it was running with the car weighing 2425 or so with driver

i'd really like to get my car "balanced" as far as weight goes so here's what i'm thinking.
In order of operation:
-Set ride height equal on left/right corners.
-Put car on scales with me in driver's seat and tire pressure at race pressure
-Place ballast accordingly to get left/right balance as close as possible
-If ballast doesn't completely balance the car left to right, move on to height adjustment?? to "lean" weight to the lighter side
-Get car aligned
How does this sound?

Geeez... I think he was referring to a given size of the different products. a 4"X4"X4" cube of tungsten will weigh more than the same size block of lead

theres a smart *** in every forum. I guess i should idiot proof the phrase.
tungsten would take up less space to achieve the same weight addition.
same weight smaller volume of material.

yea but it will cost about 200 x as much... we run between 4 and 10 , 3x4x6 tungsten "sticks" in our craftsman truck @ $$$1000 a stick !!!!!!

thanks, call me a smartass, call me what you want, i know exactly what steve meant with his comment on space vs weight, etc, etc -- fact of the matter is people have a hard enough time getting their cars to the track on the money they have to spend as it is....bringing in exotic material suggestions for people to try is not the best idea, lead is readily available and quite inexpensive -- it isn't like any of us are out of room to add weight -- there are plenty of options for placement regardless of size

You don't have a cage in your car do you? I dont remember seeing one in it last year at Tempest when you came by.

That will add some weight right there. You also need your chute since you are close to that 150mph mark man. Chute and all about 20 or so pounds there. After the halo and frotn bars and chute and such you may be able to make weight at that point man. Good luck .
Also when you weighed the car where did you weigh it and who did it? I used the OLD *** scaled at MIR myself and that **** was 100lbs off of the new Digital Scale they got there so.....

It was the scale at MIR to the left of the time slip booth (at the NOPI event). You're probably right. With that stuff, a passenger seat and carpet it should definitely be close to 2400.

i have no problems. last year i was 2650 with driver. he hee. but i did no weight reduction to the car. just removed the spare and jack and stuff, this year, hvac gone, p/s gone, smaller batt, lighter wheels, removed bumper supports. he hee. oh yeah and half the 5 lug is gone too.
2315 is not bad at all,add a little lead here and there in the right places and you should be fine...Most SFWD cars that are done to the T actuall try to shed weight...last year we were borderline, when we went to Moroso the car weighed in at 2401 the official told felix to go have a huge lunch before next round.lol.
This year we are actually 65lbs over so i think its time for some skinnies.
