My cylinder head is ticking...
I have a 89 rex si with a 91 si motor d16a6 with 70,000 miles and my head is ticking and it is driving me insane, i adjusted the valve lashing 5 times, i changed the oil and used 20 50 (the ticking got a lil' quieter), i used 92 octane gas and still its ticking... I've got some opionions from some of my friends and they think it might be a bent valve, rocker arm, tired valve springs, ect ect The car is running strong, no loss of power, it feels like it has more power though... I was leaning towards it getting a new used-head at a junk yard but i'll never know if what problem i would be getting, should i rebuild the head? how much would it cost to rebuild? should i get a junk yard head? I want to sell the car but i dont know if i should put all this money into it, cause if i put all this money into it im gonna wanna keep it .... If anyone has a spare head and lives in around milwaukee, wisconsin area and want to sell it leave a post on the board THANKS
P.S are there any crx peeps on here that live in wisconsin and that having some sort of meet or a cruise let me know to on this post... LATER

Well, the ticking my guess would be that your head would just need adjusting, but you already did that a buch of times, so I'm clueless about that. If you are planning on fixing the car go all the way and build the hell out of that head. You did say you were thinkong about selling the car. For what reason, I dont know. But if your unhappy with the car other than the ticking dont bother fixing it. Just sell it. You may regret putting the $ into it afterwards
If you can do the labor yourself, just pull the valves/valve springs and inspect them. If it's ticking AND running, it's most likely valve tapping. Are you sure you're using the proper valve lash specs? Maybe the retaining screw is stripped on one of the valves? Or the options you listed (bent, tired) could be true. Only one way to find out.
my valve lashing is at factory spec for intake and exhaust, i dont know if i wanna inspect the valves and **** i have no time for doing it, and i dont feel like spending a **** load of money to have some one else to fix it with factory parts, if im gonna spend alot of money i might as well rebuild with performance ****, anyone have any idea in how much it would cost? If i rebuild what performance stuff should i get for the rebuild? should i get a angle job or what....... give me your thoughts THANKS

opk this happend to my buddy also. The best thing to do is to go get a d16z6 gead ( SOHC VTEC) and put that on. Now you have a new head and also VTEC and 135 HP ish. That would be the best way to go. REmember take parts off unkyard cars that got into crashes not good body shape ones............

I think that this valve ticking may very well be normal. I have had two EFs and three engines and all of them have done this. Some have argued that the noise is piston slap ( i believe that was on this site, but i couldn't find it). Either way, as long as your valvetrain is adjusted to spec. I would ignore it.
my valves tick too, i am thinking that is what it is anyway. i have adjusted them and they still do it, but its not bothering me too bad now, though before i start raping on it i want to get it right...
my timing belt is tight,my injectors aint ticking, my distribitor is rebuilt, i may sell it for 2300.00 or o.b.o, what do i need for the mini me swap??? i heard that there is not much of a diffrence in the si motor only that its sohc vtec, and a pain in the *** to do if you dont know what your doing.....
