Race Motors
Hey, how you guys doing.
Well I am a new guy really to the honda scene. Been in DSM's most of my life and I happen to have been having a 93 del sol laying around and I think its time to get it up and goin.
Gettin to the point. I am looking for a company that has race motors built. Such as for DSMs Slowboy and Magnus.
Would like to find a D-series. Based on the fact that I think it would be a big insult to people to find out that they just lost to that type of engine. I've seen a couple around our local race track that run 11's. Something that really caught my eye and attention. I will go with B-series though if I have to.
But thanks alot guys for the help and everything and I am much thankful for the help you offer.

D-series + turbo = what you want.
There isn't a big "race only" motor company, it's likey to be way cheaper to build it yourself, and you'll likely get better results.
These engines are super-easy to work on.
$3700 for an N/a d-series is the most rediculous thing I've ever heard.

That's the only reason I've never picked one up $3800 + does seem like allot.
But if you don't have the time or the experience in rebuilding a motor and you have the money it might make sense.
What do you think about a turbo kit like this one ?

Please don't recommend those shoddy turbo kits to people, for that kind of money you can get a good used name brand kit.
OP: I recommend you spend a lot more time researching your possibilities before you do anything to your car. Before you get rushed and buy **** you wont want or wish you hadn't bought a year down the road.

I didn't recommend anything I was merely asking. I figured as much anyways. So how much should you spend to get big daddy D16 with all the bells and whistles. Tell us the direction you would take.
If I was going d-series I'd leave the internals stock, buy a used greddy kit for ~$1000 or piece together my own kit with a name brand manifold and turbo.
Either setup should be good for 200-250 whp with a good tune.
The first turbo setup I helped with was on a junkyard eclipse gst turbo. LS motor made 270whp after our tune with the stock exhaust.

I've seen the "weak" rods handle 250whp. But much beyond that is worth getting beefier eagle rods or something of the like.
It's not that big of a deal, if you blow it you're only out a few hundred Jr. Bacon Cheeseburgers.

i had a y7/z6 mini me in there and now a jdm d15b preparing for boost!
and serisously why do people keep putting up those cheap *** turbo kits?! here's a greddy one for 400 bucks more... maybe even less then that... i know it's got a small turbo but damn... at least it's a trustworthy company personally i'm putting together a kit right now

Not unless you had d-series goals of more than 300whp.
Otherwise there are plenty of examples of people with 40k miles on their 240whp D's.
It just doesn't make financial sense to spend $1500 making a d-series motor "rock solid" when replacing it costs a few hundred.

whats goin on. thanks for all the feedback guys and giving me an idea of direction to go.
sorry its taking this long to get back to you guys.
anyways, i think i want to make the del-sol @ least a low 12 sec. car. I have experience in building engines, but not as much as my father does who did most of the work. Kinda sad when a 60 year old man knows more about a import and everything it does then a 21 year old. But as I said, he will be helping me.
I got this car off my friend for dirt cheap because he was tired of goin through motors and everything. Started off with the D16 series, blew that motor and did the normal thing around here and went to the B16. Had that for about a year before he decided something new and went and got a H22. 3 months later, blew that because it had burnt so much oil. Then he went back into the D15 and turbo'd it. Had that for about 6 months before he blew that one with the same problem as the H22.
So I currently have no motor in the car, took it out. I have both of the D series motors. And I have some things from the B series. So basically I am in a pickle right now on what to do. I did a full inspection on the car like suspension and lines and all. Everything is good besides the motor.
So give me some more information guys on what I have told you and let me know a good route is to go. Because I think I will stick with the D series like you guys said. Let me know guys.

depends on your preference, turboing a stock d series motors nice.
if u want to hit high hp goals on a sohc then have it built, boosted, and tuned.
same goes for the b series, its all in what you want to do and how much your budget is.
like everyone says in the previous replies, a d series is cheap, blow it up, find another one, they arent high demand like b series

Go LS-Turbo.
You'll make the best bang for your buck that one. Get the block fully built and run 30psi through it, it'll hold, and you'll make some awesome numbers, plus with the block fully built you can slap a B16 head on it (will cost you a little over 1k w/ the LS/VTEC kit) to extend the redline and increase your HP. With the more aggressive cam of the B16 or a GSR you'll make power towards 8k where the LS typically wouldn't. You'd be looking at at least 600whp if you do it right, as far as total pricing goes...maybe 6k? (completely rough estimate).

that is what a buddy of mine told me to due actually today. he has a rhd itr. he says i would start out with just 8 psi and a built up block i could start out with just under 300 and then when bumpin it up to 12psi be making over 360.
something i will definitely keep in mind for right now. what kind of numbers though can the d series make.
