2nd thoughts on getting 07 Si....
The Civic Si is a great car for the price. I've only had the 3rd gear pop out once on me since I had the car, and that was when the engine was cold. I never had any interior squeaks.
I've owned my FG2 for just about a year and I still love everything about it. Minor issues straight off the lot: rear deck lid rattle -- faint but noticeable -- fixed by dealership for free, problem has not returned. Headliner tap/rattle -- only noticeable sometimes fixed by dealer with stronger adhesive -- problem has not returned. Slightly warped rear trim piece -- replaced by dealer no questions asked. 3rd gear grind -- EXTREMLEY intermittent but replaced original MTF and havent had any problems with it since then.
I've worked at a few dealerships now(honda and non-honda) and you should see some of the stuff that comes into the non-honda service departments -- we're talkin 06 and 07 vehicles with blown transmissions, bad lifters, warped heads, holes in blocks, etc, etc. So IMO a slight rattle or FIXABLE gear scratch is nothing.
People on this forum are extremley picky which i can understand but most of them simply bitch and moan on the internet instead of pursuing the problem with the dealership.
The car is honestly an all around awesome package. Have you driven one yet? I wouldnt let the threads here make you 2nd guess yourself. If you like the car, GET IT! Honda's warranty service is top-notch should you ever need to use it, but some shitty service departments/dealerships give it a bad name.
Again, if you like the car get it, you wont be disappointed.

I think the squeaks are from the sedans, probably should add that.

Haven't test driven one yet, trying to find a deal that one that I can. Only seem to either not have them or are in the show room.

Not trying to thread jack, but I didnt want to make a completely new thread.
Ive also had the same 2nd thoughts about you. Im totally in love with honda, had one for my highschool car, and I LOVED my eg. Thing was awesome on gas, fast (for my **** *** highschool), fun to drive.
Now as highschool has come to an end. Ive joined the NAVY. With a decent income, I want to get a newer, reiable car. As much as Id love to build an eg, I cant take the chance of it getting stolen.
Id like to obviously test drive a new sedan si. How old do I have to be? Will I actually be able to get after it? Do I need a parent to accompany me?
I have a clean driving record. Im 18. I just dont want them to get the wrong idea. Im not a punk kid looking for a quick ride.

your in the navy, they will let you drive anything. If someone treats you like a punk kid, tell them to eat **** and you wanna buy the car from someone else.
OP The car is worth it, by far in my mind. I have a slightly warped trim piese on the fornt passenger window(which i never thought about taking it in for, but now im gonna) and 3rd gear issue, but only if the car is cold, and it rarely happens. Keep in mind its still a civic, so you may have little rattles here and there. If you cant handle that buy a BMW or a benz. I dont have any rattles that ive noticed, but anyone who has seems to have gotten them fixed easaly.

also, its the first couple years of a complete makeover for the car. The 08 will be a little better and the 09s will probably be perfect. 08s start soon
Just to throw it in for those not really following the shift issue in detail, it isn't JUST the SI but rather all 6 speed Honda trannies that have th problem. The RSX S also does it and its been out a long time.

+1 to everything this guy said
only squeeks i had were fixed under tsb and haven't returned. my 3rd gear never popped out, but did feel a lil notchy. of course synthetic MTF fixed that.

Had mine or about a month and put about 2000 miles on it. SICK car for the money! It is a fast economy car and its NOT a typeR, so what can you expect? ANY car has BS problems. No offense to anybody, but I have NEVER had tranny problems. Replace the tranny fluid to something better like AMSoil and make sure to push the clutch fully in and there are NO problems. The short shifter does nothing but destroy your synchros, so get better bushings and whatever else. The rattles are evident in the car, but who cares? The car is meant to be DRIVEN. The car is sick and one of the BEST I have ever owned
Well just talked to my friend that's a tech at Honda.... No recalls. No service bulletins, just this...
2006 CIVIC - Transmission jumps out of gear Screen 1 of 1
Diagnostic Procedure: Detent ball springs defective. Worn synchro teeth. Also check for:
- Check the detent ball springs.
- Check the synchro teeth.
I'm sure this already been posted before.

To the OP -
All the problems you've listen pretty much ARE fixable.
Yes, there are a few rattles in this car. They had to skimp somewhere, so I guess the interior was it. Don't get me wrong, the interior is great. Just some of the adhesives and whatnot could have been a bit better.
I've had a few rattles in the car, ALL fixed by the dealer already.
As for the transmission grind, I 100% completely blame this on the driver. I have a slight grind in 2nd gear and 3rd gear. However, I've already diagnosed the problem - In my car, the clutch engagement is like.. one inch into the depression of the clutch. BUT.. for 2nd and 3rd gear, I have to have the clutch almost completely down or else it'll grind.
Should the clutch engagement be the same for every gear? Probably. Is everyone's car like mine? I doubt it. I just have to conclude that when I have the same grinds as everyone else, yet I've noticed that EVERY single time I grind those gears, it's because I either didn't have the clutch down all the way, or the long throw from 2nd to 3rd I released the clutch too early.

if you're thinking about not getting the car because of these problems then you are crazy. every car has their problems. the SI the best bang for your buck.
have you test driven the car? test drive the car and then decide. i'm sure it won't be a hard decision. i traded in my ep3 for this car and it's like a whole new world for me. good gas, great performance.

In two days I will have officially owned my si for a year and its awesome. the transmission is well worth the car for me plus if you basically maintain the car well and make sure you don't get lazy at all with the clutch the notchiness has been extremely limited for me. it is just an awesome car
I love my FG and wouldn't give it up. I personally havent had the 3rd gear problem, but I did switch all the fluids to Royal Purple the day I bought it (perks of having it in stock and a lift to work on right after I signed the papers
)
But really anything minor that you've listed, a good dealership will take care of. Just make sure you address the EXACT issue you have found with the car, if you purchase it and usually when you buy it, if you notice anything, tell them right away and they will write you a WE OWE form so they can fix it right away (this includes trans flush, oil change, plastic trim, even the rev hang for 06's and there is also a TSB out for the 06/07 Si and the front engine mount (if you hear an odd creaking noise have them check that mount, they'll know the TSB im referring to))
But don't worry, you won't regret the Si as long as you are looking for a moderately quick and fun coupe in the 20k range.
