100% water?
can you run 100% water in the summer? i just did a flush and my new radiator is on the way. but i need the car tom. is ok to run it like this for 1 day?
yes it will be fine, most people like to run just water anyway. It doesnt hurt the car or anything. The reason people use anti-freeze is because it doesnt freeze during winter. But during the summer, you dont have to worry about it freezing.

well...the glycol in the coolant acts as a lubricant for moving parts like your water pump. If you're using it for one day, it might not do anything....but I wouldnt leave it like that.

I have a friend who uses just water in his car during the summer and has done so since i first met him about 3 years ago. He doesnt have any coolant leaks or replaced the water pump since hes had the car. Its a 89 civic hatch.

I don't understand this...why not buy some coolant? You can get it anywhere, and if you don't have the 8 bucks to spend...you sure as hell dont have the money to pay for the gas the car is using.

lol you can't run coolant on tracks, huh? My S2000 sees a lot of track days. I dont drain my coolant and replace it with water ever. Coolant is called COOLANT for a reason as well. Read up on thermodynamics. Water has a high specific heat capacity. This means it can absorb heat better than coolant. This does not mean it can HOLD more heat than a coolant/water mix without boiling and turning into steam. Water still boils at 212 degrees. You have to keep it under a lot of pressure to keep it from boiling at that temperature. Coolant aids in rasing the boiling point of water. The alcohol content in it consequently also keeps it from freezing.

If you didn't need anti-freeze, they wouldn't have it from the factory, and it wouldn't be sold. Get your cheap *** up and go to autozone..geez.

of course its possible to just add water.. but if u use a lil commen sense. of course its gonna rust wen u add just water that gets up at high tempatures.. i worked at a auto shop and cars came in many times with rust comin out the radiator cap and the res. bottle filled wit rusty water... and is it a shock to hear themm all sayy. "yes i filled it with water". wat i said was not an opinion its a fact that i seen proven. im sure u can use str8 water but over time is it healthy? no

Rust? Let me ask you something. What material is a honda engine made from? Trivia question of the day.
Bonus question: What are the radiators on hondas and most modern cars made from?
Hint: ALUMINUM DOES NOT RUST FROM WATER. NEITHER DOES PLASTIC OR COPPER.

if your coolant is "lubricating" your water pump, you need a new water pump.

Coolant does play a role in lubricating water pumps. Go ask a technician, junior

It depends on the motor. Honda motors use aluminum and other manufactures use steel.
The antifreeze will help in keeping corrosion to a minimum.
Look at this....it will answer anything and everything you want to know.

well....cast iron, not steel. There's no steel engine blocks.

It's well known that coolant lubricates water pumps. I'm not sure who you are, but you need to get a new attitude or your stay here is going to be a short one. From your name, I'm assuming you've already been given such an ultimatum in the past.
This thread is done. Yes, you can run water. No, it's not the best long-term solution.
