Default New EJ8

Well I was just about to get out of the honda game for good and get an LS1 when I stumbled upon this, yesterday. Talk about rushing into buying it? I nitroused into buying it, saw it yesterday, we shook on it - paid him 4k flat cash today - drove it home.

The guy owns a garage, it was one of his customers', some 20 year old chick that neglected to put oil in it and seized up the engine. So it has a new Y8 in it with 7X,XXX miles on it and the chassis itself has 150,000 miles on it.

Motor:
Stock D16Y8, it has a cheap **** intake, header, and a full custom exhaust w/ a high flow cat and no resonator (he made it himself, has a pipe bender in his shop). ACT Stage 2 clutch and a 9lb flywheel (why you need it on a stock motor I have no idea...but at least it feels nice...)

Exterior: Painted red calipers and drums (who the hell paints drums???), 2" drop on Tokico coilovers, and white rims (make? Who knows, probably some gay knockoff - but whatever, they have a nice contrast with the paint though. (altezzas..(read below)).

Recently got repainted - OEM color black, entire car.

Interior: Skunk 2 single bed short throw shifter w/ some gay ebay **** on it which is going to come off as soon as I find a better one, I want to put a weighted **** on there, but they're expensive as ****.

So I'ma swap out that **** when I get a chance, that's that, before herassing me about the altezza taillights, first off, they came on the car, not my damn taste for sure, secondly, I can't give 2 craps what people think, thirdly, I have the OEM taillights (came w/ the car) but they're dusty as **** and I g2 clean them up b4 I put them on...and I g2 get the gasket sealer stuff, so whenever it's nice out (pouring now, that's why the pictures are dark) and I get some of that gasket sealer I'm going to put the OEM tails back in. So PLEASE don't bother me about the tails or the shifter, they're coming out whenever I get around to it.

So I'm driving it back, and I get like 10 miles from the place I got it (I test drove it yesterday, like the way it rides), and it threw a CEL.... So I pulled over and jumped it, threw a code 45 - called my dad up - told him to go to honda-tech and check out what code that is - "system too rich or too lean" - so I pulled a U turn and took it to autozone where they threw me the more accurate code which is a P0171 - "system running too lean." So I g2 be careful b/c I don't wanna dump a rod. So I just reset the ECU and hopefully it won't come back on - but if it does, I suppose I'll try a new primary O2 sensor first.

Sometimes it's a little hard to get into 1st or reverse, I'm not sure if that's 'cause of the clutch, or the trans...or bent clutch fork? Whatever, it's not hard to get in, just the clutch has to be pressed to the floor to shift into 1st or reverse where in all the other gears it's normal depression...iono.

As far as THE BAD goes:
Sunroof doesn't work, but the AC blows ice cold so I really don't care, it's sealed shut, so whatever, power door locks don't work, cup holder doesn't work (????), cig lighter cylinder isn't secured, and electric mirrors don't work.

The power door locks I don't really care about, why the hell the cup holder lid won't pop up is beyond me, it says "push" but I can't "push" it anywhere, it's solid as a rock (???), electric mirrors are manually adjusted with my hand so I don't care. I was wondering if maybe those aren't the OEM mirrors (because the OEM mirrors on my '95 civic have swivel points in case u hit something they don't break off), so are those OEM mirrors? i was thinking if they weren't maybe the wiring wasn't done, but whatever, you can manually adjust them. Cig lighter not being secured, whatever, I'll take the whole console apart tomorrow or next time it's nice and see what's what - it's pouring now.

As for the gay *** intake? As you can see the intake from my '95 EX, I'ma take that one and put it on the '97. But obviously the map sensor isn't cut out, so I have to cut a hole in that first b4 I could put the regular piping w/ the K&N filter on it - that teal POS intake sux ***** - but the guy told me he just put it on there because it was laying around, didn't wanna spend big on it (neither do I).

Radio works fine w/ my FM transmitter (the ipod fits perfectly into that ...cigarette box holder next to the defoggers) so I'm not sure if I'm going to swap that out yet, but I have a sub box in my trunk so I'll probably speaker swap when I get some $.

That's that. I suppose. Any comments (except about the tails or the shifter ****) are welcome - if anybody has a normal weighted shifter **** for sale lmk plz.

Here's some pix I took b4 it started pouring:

For four flat, I think it was a good buy, I just hope this "too lean" problem is something simple as I don't wanna dunk a whole lot of money into it.

4k equals+ej8 riced=eh not too good

go the right way

ej8 shell 1000-1500 then drop SOHC y8 or z6 for 400-600 build

and you would have a deal plus saved uyour behind 2k

Nope, no NY rust, no rot, no dings, scratches or nicks, fresh paint job.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by ilovemycoupe &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">4k equals+ej8 riced=eh not too good

Say I did do that, a shell in perfect condition with a new coat of paint can easily go for 2k. So say I put a low mileage Y8 in there, say it costs 500, now we're up to 2500. Then let's say I buy KYB coilovers brand new, what's that, another 500? Then let's say I buy rims, even if they're knock-off, whatever, another 500, so we're up to 3500 now without the short shifter, camber kit, header, (I'll disclude the cheap **** intake), and the uhh, custom exhaust. Puts it up over 4k. But whatever, to each his own.

I don't expect pple in texas and cali to understand worth of **** because those dumb ***** consider 60 degree temperature "cold." They have no idea what it's like when the roads are covered in salt and sand during winter and it chews at your frame at an exponential rate.

You won't find a rolling chassis in NY for 1500 that's in any form of "decent" condition unless you're good friends with the guy.

In cali, it's different, every 16 year old kid has a civic so there's a ****-ton more, furthermore there's NO rust what-so-ever out there, so out there it's not worth anything, here a rust free 10 year old chassis is past rare. With that said, most cars in NY &lt;2000 have rust. So whatever, somebody from cali or texas or any other state out of the eastern seaboard could never understand.

Oh well, at least I got a place to store the pictures. You guys from texas and cali 'n **** should take a trip to NY and shop for rolling shells 10+ years old for 1k - 1.5k, lemme know how it works out .

Yeah, I figured they weren't the OEM mirrors because they don't have that fold feature in case u hit something like even the 92-95 models had. Though I'm not sure I care enough to go out and buy brand new OEM mirrors. And despite what you guys think about "omg, you need CTR mirrors" - you don't, and they're not worth **** to me.

The rims aren't going, I have no issues with them, even if you guys do. The taillights I'm going to change out (he gave me the OEM ones) when it's nice out and I actually have gasket sealer so I don't have trunk leaks after I change them. As far as praying to Jesus? No you didn't. If I can figure out why it's running lean that money will go with me.

Good buy. I got My EJ8 in mass. Which they are known for salting the crap out of there roads from what I hear. I don't have that problem of the tranny not going well into first but it takes some finesse to get it into reverse. If I just lightly put it in Reverse it will grind when I let the clutch out. So I do the 1-2-R trick. Up here in Maine everyone is on the 92-95 bandwagon so I didn't caught up in that. What are your plans for it?

I like it man..The tail lights are an easy fix and you could paint the rims if you wanted to. The only thing that concerns me is the rust I'm seeing under the hood.....Makes me wonder what under carrige looks like.

Yeah, the reason for that is simply that the motor was from a salvage yard (he got it b/c a customer didn't put oil in it and seized up the engine) and it was probably outside for awhile, I was concerned about the same thing, I checked under, the car is completely rust free, I mean there's a little bit on some of the components, but nothing outta whack - there's a lot more newer cars around here that have more. The engine is just a bit rusty b/c it was sitting in a salvage yard for god knows how long b4 this guy picked it up.

Yeah, I had a little trouble getting it into reverse too, a little more than my Z6 anyways, I don't know, the problem seems to go away as long as I push the clutch all the way to the floor, I do the "4th, reverse" trick with every standard car since they don't have syncros in reverse and it works fine.

As far as plans go, none right now, just change out the taillights, get a weighted shift **** (from a real company, not this ebay allen key special).

My friend is telling me now to get an LS swap for it, if I swap it'll be at the end of the summer. I would rather boost than swap, but the Y8's IMO are impractical for boosting based on past experience...they tend to blow up easy for some reason, and their oil system sux. So maybe LS swap towards the end of the summer when I get some extra $.

The paint looks pretty fresh, which is a good thing. you seem like you don't want to dump a whole lot of money into it, so i assume nothing too big. That car has potential, use it! Get a nice lip, wheels, and do some engine work. (don't get out of the honda game yet.)
