Can i use type r b18c5 oil pump in b18b

Default Can i use type r b18c5 oil pump in b18b

Just like the topic states iv searched and cant find anything i know if i use the water pump i will need to get the gsr belt but what if i use the ls water pump and the gsr/type r oil pump???? Will i still need to use the gsr/type r belt or can i run the ls belt?

Any help much appreciated!!!

......I thought just the VTEC ones were the same? It would make no sense that a '98 LS blocks original oil and water pump would need to be swapped out for GSR or ITR ones to facilitate 8000+ rpms in an LS/VTEC build.

I think you are partly right, but only the VTEC ones are the same.

the water pumps are different from vtec to non yes, but look at the part numbers for the oil pumps and they're the same starting in 96.

even in bambam's lsvtec thread he states they're the same

So is that a yes because i have a 2000 block and that would be newer than 96

you can run a pre 96 oil pump....they are all the same internally....the pre 96 don't have a spot for the crank angle sensor that is mounted to the oil pump and will need the right timing belt cover for 96 newer oil pumps
