IMO the K swaps are the most ridiculous swaps ever.

You can go much faster for much less with other builds. But whatever floats your whistle.

I could almost understand doing a $10,000 swap if it netted you having RWD.

It doesnt. You're still fwd, and still have ~200whp. And you just spend ~$10,000.

Half of what d-series guys spend to get their cars into the low 12's. And if they blow their ****, it's $300, not $5000

k series engines are designed compelte different than old days b and h engines.
it is complete opposite. a lot of work and money and time needs to be invested.
for me. not worth it

yea a k20 swap is siick but very expensive and should only really be done or tried for that matter by experienced shop owners..or jus rich people who got enough money to blow around...and jus so u know B20 blocks r weak as hell, get a gsr or ITR block and stroke it

I understand what you mean but K series swaps are more rare and more impressive. Also, B18's and D16's aren't in production anymore. That means K series cost will go down and more parts are to come.

Why does having a K make your car more respectable than having any other motor?

hahaha..lol....i think its cuz of when kids see a kseries under the hood of an older civic there eyes LIGHT up...but when its the same old bseries or dseries they jus dont care as much ...me personally a BUILT motor is a BUILT motor and a 250whp bseries at 2.0 would take a 200whp kseries... jus a fact but i do love my k20a2

What is your budget first of all? Can you even afford the labor, and parts needed for the k-swap? People with hook ups or not have spent $5k+ on parts alone, tuning and labor is another break in the bank.

dont do a k series i beat an rsx type s in my eg with LS running 6 pounds by 8 or 9 cars and i only spent about $1200 while he is paying $18000 for the car so those motors arent really worth it

why dont you go with a H22A swap? 200hp 160lbs+ torque. build that and you will be fast. stock is fast. built is dirty.

I wouldnt say it costs $5000 if you blow the bottom end on a k series, k24 shortblocks are only $900.

If you want to run a D-series that barely has any torque be my guest..id much rather have torque..

here we go again... this is gonna end up being another b vs. k thread... do whats in your budget and research k motors and decide for your self... i went k.. and never regret it once... it blows my mind to see how much power and torque k20/k24 make... check out k20a.org plenty of info there...

k series engings are basicaly just for the flash of saying hey i just blew 15k on a k swap cause i'm cool like that... i've driven a k swapped eg... i've also driven a boosted b18c and a boosted d16y7.... to be quite honest the y7 pulled stronger than the k... and my bud with the y7 might have spent 2.5k on his whole setup including the y7... think about that

k's are just for bling now as there are so many other options to put out so much more power

K-series is a nice motor, if your car came with it.

With the way the market is now, and what it takes to get it into our OLD cars, it's not worth it. There are cheaper, more effective options out there.

ok let me use this as an example:

going back to when gsr's, type r's, and h22 motors where rare in civics why? cause this is when everyone had sohc motors and bagged on b and h motors cause they were too much money at the time... i remember when i was 15 i saw a stock jdm b16a swapped rex and i thought that guy was a baller... it was fast back then but off course he spent a grip on it and the sohc gurus with built/nos/turbo d series would talk **** cause the barley get beat or they get him.. either way people who hate on k motors are repeating the cycle....

Yeah, but take in mind that B-series and H-series are MUCH more compatible with 5th and 6th gen engine bays than the K-swaps. YES, the prices of K-swaps will come down, but the fabrication and wiring, and tuning that is involved in K-swaps which is the MOST expensive part, will not just go away. That is and always will be a factor.

Think about it, 92-00 civic use 99.9% 92-00 motors for their swaps. When you start putting 2003+ technology into 90's cars, that's where the hassle comes in. In a nutshell.

understood... but i have seen prices drop already of course those who do it first will pay the big bucks.... but a k20a2 motor runs about the same price as a itr swap now... i see hybrid offers a swap package for like $700 or so... so realistically its not that crazy like everyone hypes it up to be... a k swap in a civic? it consist the same components as any other swap, mounts, axles, harness, ecu, linkage... of course there's more to be done than a b series motor but well worth it...

but like ek said the most expensive part... the fab and wiring and fitment will always be there... even if the price of k motors drops dramatically there will still always be cheaper and more effective routes
