89 honda accord lx
i have an accord lx which is the carburated model. it sometimes has a problem starting up right away. ill turn the key it will fire up and die. other times it will take a second and ill pump the gas a few times to help it and its starts right up, then i have to hold it at around 2k rpms for just a few seconds. i dont know what this could be.
also when i begin to drive the car, and while driving at a steady speed, i can feel the car stutter like it has a miss' or something. gas millage seems like it could be a bit better. if some one can help me out with my problem that would be great. thanks if you can email me at Musicis69@aol.com because i will check there more frequent then here.

I don't know if we have anyone on this forum anymore that knows that much about carburetors, other than on lawnmowers and go-karts.
It could be the carburetor choke mechanism or possibly the choke heater. The miss could be due to the sparkplugs or even the the sparkplug wires.
Best I can tell you, is do the regular tune-up. Change the air filter, sparkplugs, distributor cap and rotor, motor oil, spray some carburetor cleaner in and on the carburetor, pcv valve, etc.. On many carburated cars, you have to step on the gas first to start it, if it sits awhile.

Check for a clogged fuel filter. Theres usuially a small filter located in the base of the carb. If its restriceted, it will cause hesitation, hard starting and lean running.

The choke is there so you dont have to pump it to start it cold.
