My car hit some wood, how bad is the damage?
[I apologize for being a noob, although I have been watching this forum for quite a while.]
I was doing 62mph on the freeway when the idiot in front of me had some firewood
fall out of the back of his truck. I hit a chunk with my front right wheel. Only when I got home did I realize the damage was so bad. It could have been a lot worse. An unsecured load in Washington is a class C felony. I already called the Washington State Patrol and filed a complaint. Others had already done the same... apparently some people got it a lot worse than me.
Anyways, how serious is the damage? Do I need a new wheel? If so, does anybody have a stock right wheel they would like to sell me?

Almost a year ago to this day I hit a hubcab at 68mph directly head on. Shattered like crazy.

Yea... Insurance should cover that depending on your deductables. I would recommend getting it fixed/replaced either way. If you can find a shop that will do it you can fix the stock one but it might be cheaper just to get it replaced.
the deductable im sure is more than the cost to fix it yourself.........
the rim looks a little unsafe man, i would be afraid of something when im turning hard or leaning to much on that wheel.

i'm sure you can go to a junkyard and find a steelie off another civic...
i see no reason to claim this on insurance, it'd be a waste and probalby drive up the insurance. no reason to take this kind of situation to insurace if the cost of the damge doesn't exceed your deductible by a large margin

After ordering, look for your Local DOT's website. Damage resulting from holes/road debris are usually covered and will be reimbursed. Keep all your receipts & usually they will give you 60-70% of the cost

I will not be dealing with my insurance, as I believe the long-term costs will far out pace what I would pay out of my pocket to get this fixed.
I just want a new steelie, unless a tire shop is confident that the damage is slight and easily fixable.
I figure somebody on this forum must have upgraded their wheels and has the stock wheels just sitting around. I need to post an offer to buy one of them. Anybody? Anybody!?
Thanks for the help, guys!

print that site up and bring to your local service manager SOMETIMES, they will match the prices and you can save on the shipping.
Tell him that you'd like him to mount and rebalance that tire (he'll make some $ on the services) and the link provided is what their cost is.
he MIGHT even have a steelie in stock or a "take off" from another LX/DX etc.
but without all that hustle. just order online
and bit the bullet
with everything
wheel, cap (could probably just bend yours flat) and balancing
should be 100 IF that.
which is pretty decent for hitting something on the hw & could have been alot worse.

haha thanks lol, save the money and go buy your steelie.

doesnt the guy that lost the fire wood have to pay for it. If there were other complaint, then the cops have his plate and address, most likely. Or like the other guy said maybe the city/county will reimburs you and they will get money out of him for damages to other peoples cars.
That is the first bent blackie I've ever seen. lol Time for new wheels, I'm not sure it's worth buying steelies from the dealership.

I took my car into the family trusted tire shop. Results:
- They were able to hammer out the wheel frame. They used a balance tester and it tested as new. No bulge on the tire. Little chance of internal tire damage. Cost $17. I really did not want new rims... I am not cool, nor do I pretend to be.
- They checked the alignment. The front wheels were completely out of whack, likely due to me hitting the wood on the road. The back wheels and back toe were also poorly aligned, likely from the factory/dealership, but no kit yet exists to completely align the rear wheels. Anyways, all 4 wheels were aligned as best as possible. Tires rotated. Cost $70.
Hopefully I have no more problems and avoid other roadway hazards.
Thanks again for all of the help. This is a nice forum, I just wish I knew more to contribute. In the meantime, back to lurking...

Argh! Why does any car shop ALWAYS insist on checking the tire pressure? Drives me insane... they're idiots! Just last week I checked my tires and each tire was perfectly set at 34.5 PSI. The car shop claimed they checked each tire and set them at 35 PSI. I doubted their accuracy and checked this morning.
The front left tire was set at 45 PSI. Way overinflated.
The front right tire was set at 28PSI.
The two rear tired varied between 32-34 PSI.
