yes you can. some guy on here had some crazy HID **** going on with a cleeean cut off. You can definitely get it installed without "causing problems with the wiring".. lol. as long as u know what you're doing

OP, you're most likely thinking of a kit. HID kits are aftermarket HID bulbs and ballasts that come with application specific bulbs (9006, for example). These bulbs are simply rebased D2S HID bulbs made to fit your car.
The problem with these is twofold: the bulbs and the wires. First, the bulbs. Since they are D2S bulbs, they are unshielded bulbs designed for use in projector lights. This causes a lot of unnecessary glare when used in reflector housings, such as the one your Civic has. Secondly, halogen reflector housings were not designed with the amount of light HIDs put out in mind. This also creates a bad lighting pattern and can cause glare when light hits the bottom of the chrome housing.
Secondly, the wires. Although HIDs run with less power (35w vs. 55w), the intense power they draw during startup can overpower your stock wiring harness. If you simply use a plug and play HID kit, your stock wiring harness may fry, which, I guess, could damage your electrics. I doubt it would do more than totally screw up your lighting. It would be costly to replace and it would be out of warranty.
The good news is you can avoid all this and do a proper retrofit. A retrofit means taking the projectors from a factory HID equipped car and mounting them to your headlights. Then you can buy a wiring harness meant to handle the new startup power, and you'll have much better results.
You will have a crisp cutoff (no glare for oncoming drivers), good light dispersion, and better light output.
One thing to consider though, it's very difficult if not impossible to use an HID kit in a retrofit. The plugs and bulbs will usually not work. So if you wnat a retrofit, save up and do it right hte first time!

This is far from true. The only and rare case I can think of this ever happening, is if you use a kit that is directly hooked up to the main harness, but with a wire harness with relay and fuses, this wiring or electrical work is completly independent from the main harness, or any other electrical componenets of a vehicle.
