Default clutch pedal resistance

Have a 97 ex with 135k. Bought it 1 year ago with 96k. A couple months ago the clutch started to slip. It started to get really bad so called around looking for someone to fix it. I first wanted to take it to honda, but it was very expensive. Ended up taking it to the shop that the county uses for tows. Figured it was a good shop. Seemed to be about 6 hours labor charge everywhere that I called.

Dropped it off friday morning, and picked it up tonight (saturday). Right away I noticed the resistance on the pedal is nothing compared to what it was before. Maybe I just have to get used to it, but wanted to check if this is normal. According to the receipt, they installed a new clutch assembly - aap. It is working fine. Just the drastic change in the pedal is what is scaring me. Didn't get a chance to ask since they were closed by the time I picked it up. It is just a different clutch, which has a different resistance? Has slight resistance for about half the pedal travel, and at the end it drops to almost none. The stock clutch had a much stiffer feel to it, that had the same resistance for the complete travel.

Just hope I didn't end up with some garbage clutch that is going to wear out fast. In 99 I bought a 97 hx with 22k. Sold it with 165k and clutch was still going strong. Also had a 90 si hatch that bought with 75k, sold at 185k and clutch still was going strong. Not sure if it was the stock clutch when I bought it though. Probably was.

The point is, putting a new clutch on my current civic at 135k, it should last long enough so I shouldn't have to worry about it ever again. Something just doesn't feel right with it though. What do you guys think? Thanks for any help.

it it super stiff, super soft? did you ask what kind of clutch they put in either oem or aftermarket. some clutchs will be stiff due to the pressure plate.

Super soft.

When I think oem, I think the exact part that the car came with, from honda. Aftermarket, a much higher quality part. What was put in was probably the cheapest clutch from whatever parts store they use. On the receipt it says the brand of clutch is aap.

It is gripping fine. Also more used to it now. Was just worried at first since I paid so much for this. $800. The clutch was only $200. So much labor. Honda wanted close to $1000 after tax and everything. Feel foolish for paying so much. Depend on my car greatly, and the clutch was slipping very bad. Was hard even getting to the speed limit. So just called a bunch of places and took it to the cheapest and closest place. Wasn't really thinking about which clutch they would put it. I should of bought a good quality clutch on my own, and gave it to them to put in.

Anyone from chicago that knows a place that does work on hondas for really cheap? Could have sworn there was some guy that works out of his garage for really cheap, but can't find his info now. I do most of the maintenance work myself. Brake, oil, spark plug, fluid changes, etc. Wasn't willing to try the clutch though. Took me about 3 days to change an axle, would have taken a month to change the clutch. Might take an auto class next semester. Hate getting screwed on labor charges.
