Default Nokia cable (for dataloging) isn't recognizing on my laptop!! Anyone have any ideas why?

OK so I finally bought a laptop so I would stop using my girlfriends. I'm trying ot setup the computer to datalog. I downloaded the nokia driver and installed. Restarted the computer and the damn thing still doesn't recognize the cable. Anyone have any ideas why?

Thanks.

Yeah this cable has been used many times with my gf's laptop.

Only thing that is different is trying to use it on my laptop.

OS: Windows XP

Downloaded the nokia drivers, restart the computer and instructions say when you plug the cable back it it will work. I plug it back in and says drivers are not found blah blah. I also did direct the computer to look in the folder with the drivers.

I've had issues on my IBM T60 laptop with my cheap nokia cable, although I also have it routed through a hub along with an LED light and a chip burner. I sometimes have to restart it and/or plug it into different ports to make it work. I have a procedure down now and it doesn't happen unless I get lazy.

Otherwise sometimes XP is just gay. Chalk it up to one more of the 'random features' of that OS.

What chip is it using? FTDI or prolific? Try using the drivers direct from the chip maker, if you know what it's using.

idk man. maybe redownload the driver. remove the other one from the computer and go back through the steps. you're 100% positive the cable is not showing up in device manager under ports? do you still have the other laptop you could connect it to to make sure something in your cable didn't go bad?

just tossin out ideas

hey i had that same problem with my nokia datalogging cable. for some reason the prolific driver worked on one comp but didnt on another and the same for the nokia. what i ended up doing was dl-ing every driver i could find for the nokia phones that uses the DKU-5 cable and installed it all along with the prolific driver and then restarted my computer and plugged in the cable, the computer finally picked it up and installed one of the drivers.

It shows up in the ports manager thing but its "Unknown". Im going to try to delete all the drivers I already installed and try this again. If not Ill just buy hondalog from moates.

Im not sure what port it is I will have to check. It the only open USB on my laptop.

Well now I am getting this message. I copied the folder with the drives to my desktop and searched in my nokia driver folder. And gives this message.

Then when I go to driver details it says there are no drivers installed for this part??? There is nothing to installed, I just want it to find it on the desktop.

Well I was trying to uninstall them but it says there are no drivers even installed.

I got the drivers from here:
