Helm's or Hayne's Manual
..there's no comparison...helm's all the way, its disgusting how much info is in there.. everything is covered bit by bit... http://www.helminc.com
I just talked to the two days ago. They are out of the '88 CRX and they are unsure when they will be back in stock. The '89-'91's are available but they are printed when they are ordered so it might take a little extra time.
I called helms and the guy was really rude and foreign. I couldn't understand him and after every question I asked, he would wait a second then say "would you like to purchase that sir?" I think he said it's $62 plus some other fee. I can't afford that right now, but I'm assuming it's worth it once I can right? I know the haynes isn't near as good, but it's only $15. I'll probably just wait and get the helms...

It is the bible of Service Manuals. They produce the books for many brands of cars and the Honda ones are so complete it is unreal. I have the Helm for my 89 CRX,96 Civic and 99 Prelude and they are much more than any of the Hayne or Chilton books.
Save up the cash and get the real thing. BTW: The procedures for an 88 will be basically the same as the 89-91. The biggest difference will be in the electrical as it relates to seat belts and other devices, as far as I can tell.

I'm working my way towards a b16 for 89 hatch i got yesterday. i know i need the one for my hatch. As for the motor should i get a del sol helm's
I have a haynes AND a chiltons. chitons is bad but the Haynes is worse than useless. THe pictures and diagrams for setting the timing belt on a 1.5 are completely wrong and completely useless. I don't have a Helms yet since I haven't found someone who sold it locally. It has nearly nothing one the 5-speed and I need teardown and overhaul info on that. I no longer have the 1.5 DX but now have a ZC. Was able to download a british service manual that covers it off the net.

i've struggled through using haynes and chiltons as well. when i tried to get my hands on a helms, i had NO luck. helmsinc only prints the manuals when they get an *** load of orders, so getting it direct is really a shot in the dark. best bet is finding one on ebay or locally..also you can stumble on an online database that someone has posted.
haynes is essentially the same book for every car made..they snap some pics and some diagrams for generalized stuff, but it does not have the detailed stuff at all. chiltons is even worse..the book i have is for "civic 84-95." how detailed can that be??

yeah, the big problem i have with haynes is the 3rd gen photos.
get helms. that's the manual honda/acura uses in their service centers.
i went to helmsinc.com and sent an email to their customer service, they responded very quickly. i don't know how long it takes for them to ship.
