New as Hell, Late as Hell, Looking for Answers.
I know im gonna get ripped on for posting this here, or there. But I dont really know the whole lay out of your boards yet, so I figured I would throw this up here.
Ive just very resently come into the market for another car, and for some very strange reason, Ive decided to look at a Honda. Im a VW guy thru and thru, and lately they have been straight killing my wallet. So, after a very long debate, Ive decided to look into importing a 92 Civic SI-R from Japan thru one of the many import sites up for Canadian buyers.
I guess what I really am looking for here, is a crash coarse on what im getting myself into, and any useful info on this perticular model. Pardon my ignorance and dumb *** questions that im sure will arise in the near future.
Basically id like to know the power output, what adapts well to these motors that come stock in them (B16)? Id really like to go all motor, but is that a dumb decision? Im all about clean cars, so the looks department is pretty much sealed up, ive been going over different looks in my head, and I think Ive got one I'll enjoy. So If anyone has a Right Hand drive SI-r or even pictures or comments, id like to hear them. Thats if anyone is even still awake and reading haha.
Thanks.

92-95 Civic Si-R (JDM)
B16A2
4 cyl, 16 valve
DOHC VTEC
10.4:1 c.r.
PGM-FI (MPFI)
160 bhp @ 7600
111 lb-ft @ 7000
Redline: 8200 rpm
The EG (in my opinion) although there are many of them out there, there is a reason for it. It is a very fun and easy chassis to work with! I own two, a coupe and a hatch, both regular old left side drive. If you import an si-r, the above info is what you are looking at for power output. The si-r also comes equiped with front and rear disc brakes. One thing I love the most about the EG hatch, is the fact that its the only Civic hatch that has a tailgate! Like I said, this is a very easy, and very fun chassis to work with. The aftermarket support for it is never ending.

So, whats needed to get this bad rabbit up to 200+ without forced induction?
Im done with turbos and superchargers for the moment haha.

Oh, and going all-motor is definatley not a dumb idea, but just like all other kinds of motor builds, it has its pros and cons. Build your motor the way you want, all motor or force inducted. Just make sure you do it the right way, thats the key to keeping a boosted or built motor running good.
Yeah, All my pals are all telling me "Oh your gonna have problems like whoa"
But the way I see it, every car has its problems, so really...I just want a change.
I can get a JDM EG here for just under 10, and I can't wait. Theres some nice EG's around here, but no Right hand drive real JDM cars. Its going to be fun having the honda guys hate me haha.

Id say sell your motor (the b16) and pick up an Integra Type-R motor (b18c5) because the motor is rated at 195 or 200 hp in stock form. However, id say if you improved your air/fuel/spark delivery, added a header and exhaust, you might get close. Those are mainly the simple bolt ons though. You can always get camshafts, pistons, cam gears, valves retainers and springs, and an engine management system, then have someone dyno-tune it for you. That route would definatley get you 200+ out of the b16 with the right parts and the right tune.

Im really out to have an all JDM SI-R, while retaining the B16a2.
All I really need is 200ish, Just so it gets out of its own way haha.
Can you give me some insight on these things called Vtec Killer cams?

If you are looking for 200'ish, id say check out some camshafts (stage 1 or 2,) adjustable cam gears, build up the valvetrain (springs, retainers, valves,) upgrade your ignition (nothing crazy, just some MSD wires and distributor cap with an external coil,) install a fuel pressure regulator, add an intake header and exhaust, get some sort of tunable ecu or V-AFC, things of that nature, have someone tune it, and see where you end up. Should be pretty close to what you are looking for. I personally dont know much about the vtec killer cams. Try using the SEARCH option on the main page, you might find a thread or two on that.

BnM has a FPR that me and all my friends use. It does us good justice and is great for beginners to learn on. Not that expensive either!
Well, this is starting to get me excited.
this might be an odd question, but do you know the factory colors the SIR came in, ive seen this beige sorta tan color around and was wondering if it was a factory JDM color.

Hello New User, Welcome to Honda-Tech
There is a wealth of information here on this forum just waiting for you to discover.
Whether you joined to get some help with a problem on your Honda, wanted to see other peoples cars and get ideas for your own, wanted to buy some parts, or maybe you just own a Honda and wanted to join the club, a good place to start is with a good >>>>>SEARCH<<<<<< . You will notice the red SEARCH button on the top right hand side of the screen. You can search to see if someone has had a similiar problem, or has a similiar post to what you wanted to make.
The first screen you come to has a long list of different sections you can choose from, each having there own reason.
The first list you will see are Model Specific TECH forums. These are forums for general TECH related questions and post about SPECIFIC MODELS. A suspension question is not MODEL specific, as all cars have it, so that might be better suited in the Suspension forum. You get the idea. Before you post a question, SEARCH to see if it has been covered before, because it probably has. Here is a good link to show you how to use the search function. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=979961
The next list you will see are more Technical Forums, except this time instead of car/model specific, it is topic specific, IE All motor, FI (forced induction), Suspension, Drag racing, AutoX, etc. Your questions about these matters go in the designated forum.
The next place you will see the Marketplace. Come on, do you need an explaination about this? Buy or sell your parts here.
The next section is labeled Honda-Tech Forums. You will find the Appearance and Cosmetic section. This section is good for when you want to show off your car and get feedback on what you have done. Or if you have questions about something to do with appearance in general, this is your forum. The other sections here are the Events and Meets section, where you can find out what is going on in your area, or announce something of your own. And then there is Kills. Tell stories of who you raced and what happened here. Enter at your own risk.
And then there is GDD- General discussion and debate. This is basically the Off-topic forums of Honda-Tech. You can explore these for yourself.
There you go, I hope that you read this and understand the layout of this website.
Again, Welcome to HT.

now that i gave you the generic welcome post, I will give you my 2 cents on your plans thus far.
If you absolutely have to have a RHD drive car imported, cause your pimptastic like that, then fine, its your money, do what you will. I would never do it, cause you could have a badass car for 10 G's, if you spent 3 grand on a car, and 7 grand building it to your liking, but whatever.
A swap would be the easiest way to get 200hp, and the most reliable. If your not up for a swap, then plan on building your motor quite extensively to reach 200hp. Remember, when your working with a b16, you only get 1.6 liters to work with. Its a great motor, but its still 1.6. Upgrading to a bigger motor will make it easier, but like I said, thats up to you.
Try to ask a more specific question, then we can give you a more specific answer. Try asking user Eran about your question on the paint. I could find it, but I dont want to, and he probably knows off the top of his head, cause he is cool like that.

Sorry dood, I dont really have any "specific" questions as of yet. This will be my first Honda, and I just wanted to get a feel for the forums, and an idea about the SIR, and what its deal was. Yeah, my idea for MY car, is a clean ***, EG, on the ground..so dishin out the 10g's and gettin one with RHD in it, just seems like a good idea to me.
Basically, I just wanted to chat about this car.

Do a search for "h2b"
You'll spend less than you would on a type-r, and so a lot faster a lot easier.
it's an h22 mated to a b-series transmission via an adapter plate.
A flatter power surve all the way across. Most eg's and ej chassis civics run 12's with little effort from that swap. It's new, revolutionary, and much cheaper for an N/a build than any other motor out there.
b18c5s need high compression, good tuning, and expensive parts.

I had a feeling that ek forever guy would hop in here and get on his soap box about H2B's
Anyways, to the OP, the B16 is called the torqueless wonder for a good reason...it's torqueless. While a 1.6 making 160hp (~130-140 at the wheels) at the crank is amazing, it still doesn't provide torque. I'd HIGHLY recommend upgrading to a B18C1 (Acura Integra GS-R motor) or B18C5 (Type-R motor)...or since you'll be JDM, scoop a B18C
.
And as for going all motor, that's a money pit right there. You're talking about getting forged HIGH compression pistons, rods, building the **** out of your head, spending a good chunk of change on a good header, tuning it, and then on top of that, you HAVE to run high-high octane gas for it to run correctly. And then, in order for it to perform well at the track (straight line...1/8th or 1/4) your car can't weigh alot because squeezing 200whp out of a tiny 1.6 or 1.8 motor is tough and the only way that it'll truly "get up and run" is for it not to weigh alot.
I'd highly recommend swapping in a B18 if you plan on going the all-motor route...and if you plan on keeping the B16 and going all-motor, I hope your pockets are deep.
To conclude, I suggest building the motor (forged low compression pistons and rods) and boosting it...it's the most bang for your buck and you can constantly change stuff to make it more efficient and more powerful.

Makes sense doesn't it?
If you're going ALL motor, go ALL out, get a real motor. One with displacement.
k20, h22, f20b, or nothing.
With those motors he shouldn't need to build them unless he want's low 12's high 11's.
h2b, and f20's aren't nearly the money pits n/a as b18c's are.
High somepression not necessary, .4L of displacement does all the work

I've yet to come across an H2B in real life (nobody in my area is really into the hybrid tuner scene), but from what I hear they can hold their own.
But yeah, there's no replacement for displacement
But yeah, there's no replacement for displacement
So this H2B is just an H22 with a B series tranny mated to it....
The only thing is, that I would really like to keep it completely JDM if Im importing one...So would the B18c be the only option if I want some power. Im not totally against boost, theres guys around me every day that have boosted civics. Ive just had some bad luck with FI..
Still can't find the damn paint codes for the JDM SI-R's...

There are two different B18C's...the GS-R equivalent and the Type-R equivalent.
You CAN make a B16 powerful, it's just a hell of a lost easier to boost it as opposed to going N/A.
