Default Piping size

I have a question on piping size, i have an appointment at Midas on Monday to get my exhaust put in, im going with an apexi N1 muffler and tip and 2 1/2 inch piping. Is this a good combo, i want the exhaust loud, but not a hollow fart can.

Thanks in advance

2 1/2" is more than enough for the D17.

I think he's going with just the Apex'i muffler, and having the muffler shop weld him custom piping? And I would agree unless you have a serious application, buying a bolt-on exhaust and installing it yourself is about the price equivilent to a custom weld. Not to mention the pride involved in 'customizing' it yourself.

Well considering the muffler you are using it is pretty good quality, Apex'i is a pretty reputable brand.

As for the piping, 2.5" should be just right unless you are going turbo.

Another thing you may want to consider.. Check out this picture of a $200 cat-back exhaust found on eBay. Most exhausts (whether eBay or brand-name) usually have resonators that are welded in-line with the piping (even stock). The resonator is responsible for hushing down some of that loud raspy noise that you don't want. You may want to tell you're friend to weld a resonator for your application.

many 'bolt on' exhaust systems dont fit right and require custom work anyway so i'd have it custom build. besides you'll have a warantee most likely. i custom built mine but i worked at a muffler shop at the time. most of the kits ppl brought us needed more customizing then bolting.

I love HOnda Tech! You guys are awesome, and saved me from a 4 inch tip, taking a resonator out, and 2.5 inch piping.

My set up now is looking at a 3 inch tip, 2.25 inch piping and keeping the resonator in. (All still Apexi)

Cool??

Thanks again

3" = 8+ Psi
2.5"= <8 PSI
2.25" = N/A

Period.

ya i did go with 2 1/4 and got it all done, $200 out the door, but it took them almost 4 hours. Apparently they ran out of 2 1/4 inch piping and asked if i just wanted 2 1/2, but i said no so one of them had to go a half hour away to get more. But all in all it was a really fun experience.

Thanks again for everybodys help,
I will try aadn post pics up tomarrow
