Problems w/ Imported UK Civic?
Hey guys, i'm looking at purchasing an '07 civic si that was imported from the UK. The person selling it apparently brought it over and is selling it b/c of the high registration restrictions/difference in emissions tests, etc. I don't know how much different the UK si is from ours but just wondering if anyone knows just how big of a pain this would be. Any thoughts would be really helpful thnx.
Its going to end up being more trouble than its worth unless you know someone at the DMV that can "help" you out with it. Tedious and expensive process if done the correct way.
Just buy one here...?

yeah...that's what i thought, this story is sounding way to good to be true, but i just want to see where it leads, you never know. well, he's asking $5k for it & it supposedly only has 14k miles on it. i know, i know, prolly a fake, but he keeps telling me it's legit, so we'll see what happens, worth a look i suppose.

Haha are you kidding me? 5k? And you actually think it's worth a look?
I'll sell you my 2007 Civic SI Sedan in Taffy white, more or less flawless so far with 1800 miles. Just send me 15k (cash, no checks / money orders) and I'll get it right on over to you...

I plan on importing a FD2 (new type-r in japan) someday for a showcar. You dont have to register or have the emissions brought up to par with our laws as long as you dont drive it on public roads.
edit: correction, not inspected, but registered.

most likely the person who owns it went through a registered importer that converted the vehicle's safety and emissions equipment to comply with US standards.
foreign nationals may bring their vehicles over here for up to one year. sometimes they are required to pay a bond. they could not legally sell the vehicle here for highway use. I have seen seat leon cupra and a Renault Clio V6 running around here in the Phoenix with Mexican plates on them.
