6x9" in front doors???
why would you want 6x9's in the doors? Oval speakers arent acoustically as good as round speakers. get oversized 6.5" component speakers in the front doors, and mount the tweeters up high and you wont be dissapointed. Clear high's and thunderous mid bass, almost wont need to run a sub.....almost :
acually i have a set of focal component speakers in front and a set of focal 6x9s in that back hooked to an amp and i think it sounds better then if i had sub?? and about fitting 6x9s in the front.... i had trouble fitting 6.5 inch ones in there cause its sooo close to the window when its down

You needed to either, 1) buy a speaker with a shallow mounting depth, 2) buy spacers, or 3) make spacers.
But JDM_DC4_Fanatic is correct, round speakers produce better sound quality than oval speakers.

If that's the case, you didn't have everything adjusted right, you bought the wrong setup for your tastes, or you bought poor quality speakers and/or amp.

Not true. Have you tried ma audio 5x7-6x8 componet set or the kicker version? They perform very welll and sound really good. And they give out great midbass while they are playing. I used them in a mustang and was very impressed with them. So have alot of people.

Sorry, I should of said 'typically' round speakers sound better then oval speakers.

spacers would help some but the factory grilles would still be covering almost half of the oblong speakers.

round speakers are just better sounding for one reason...they are round! here's a little analogy...have you ever seen a round above-ground pool???
have you ever seen an oval above-ground pool??? the round pool requires no external bracing due to it's round shape. the oval pool requires external bracing because it has flat/close to flat sides. the weight of the water exerting against the inside edges of the round pool is evenly distributed along the walls requiring no bracing. the flat sides of the oval pool require the bracing because the water is pushing against the flat sides with more pressure than its round ends. round speakers are just plain sound more linear in their performance. ovals tend to get a little overly heavy on the midbass.

since when have focals become poor quality speakers?

a properly setup and tuned system in the right car can still sound great with no sub...it's been done tons of times before. obviously there is that missing thunder but you can still get great response.

I never said the brand was poor quality. I was referring more to the possibility of used speakers, etc.

no, what you said was correct dont alter your statement. sure 6.5s dont have as much bass response as thier 6x8 or 6x9 component, but if someone is serious about car audio it doesnt matter. oblong speakers are a byproduct of compromises made by the acoustically limited OEM car audio designers.
1. notice how most high end car audio companies dont produce oblong spkrs in thier higher lines, it would be a contradiction
2. notice that home audio doesnt use oblong spkrs because space isnt an issue.
MA audio is a 3rd rate car audio company and kicker is good at best. at least kicker has a high line, SS, which are only offered in 6.5" and 5.25
If you want good bass from your door spkrs buy some MB quarts (reference or higher) a clean and powerful amp to drive them, and dynamat your door really good.

No he was right i changng re-wording his post. Hell jl audio was a third rate car company as you called ma. I remember when no one wanted their product or subs when that what they had to offer. Look at them now. If alpine or some other high end company started a run of 6x8 componets. Everybody else would jump right in. Hell look at the shallow-mount sub. Everybody makes them now.

that is of course completely subjective, they do come with jumpers and I have mine set at -6db and they sound fine, and i dont even like highs. besides when have you been to a concert and not heard too much highs mixed into the music, the guys who usually mix live music are most of the times tone deaf of highs. Fact is live music is almost always harsh.

Fu[/i]ck subjective. I'm right about everything! !!

With most concerts I find it's just too much of everything, and besides how often do you listen to "live" music for sound quality? Even when mixed & recorded separately it's usually not as good as a studio recorded album.

i'd have to agree...most live concerts are definitely not about the SQ...but they are all about the dynamic headroom.
