where to start with turbo
OK i have caved i am going to get a turbo....the problem is i am worried about jacking up my car.
now i know that it would not be the best idea to just slap on any old E BAY turbo kit, there are "standards" that need to be met. the problem is that i have heard so may different things about "turbo necessities" that i don't even know where to begin. as of today in my car i have a
99 4 door civic with 2000 b18c1 80,000 plus miles, stage 1 exedyclutch/flywheel,short shift, aem ram intake, avid stage 1 racing engine mounts and Axel's,skunk 2 Coilover's and camber kit in the front/rear, upgraded shocks as well.
so what i am looking for from you guys is a little guidence as to what should be done prior to getting a turbo, i.e. internals needing to be beefed up?,max boost psi for stock/aftermarket internals, and what companys i need to look out for and what ones i need to look at. i have done research but everyone says the same thing..theres is the best..buy buy buy,and the turbo kits all come with different parts, some with intercoolers some with out...boost timers some with out ect...

If you are in CA I would look at some Edlebrock or Greddy CARB legal kits. How much whp are you looking to make?
So you would be ok with around 250whp? How well is your motor kept up? How hard do you drive it and how often?
hell yeah 250...my work drive is not even a mile and i drive from santamaria to sacramento and back once a month if that.
I'm glad you're at least able to upgrade internals, becasue that will give you a lot more flexibility. But i have a question, how much do have to spend on this project??

http://www.turboneticsinc.com/turbo_overview.htm just take a breif glace through this, although since it's a quality turbo, you're paying a lot. BUt anyway, you'll be able to get well above 250hp with that money. I don't live in cali, so i don't have to worry as much about smog and cops. So like stated, you might want to look into a greddy or edelbrock kits. My only problem with the kits is that they're pretty expensive, but they include every thing you'll need. I have another question, do you feel comfortable with putting in your own pistons, etc? How much internal work can you do, because i know for myself that i don't like to mess too much with that becasue if it blows up, i wasted money and i;m screwed.
For not cheaping out and trying to buy quality parts.

Dude, if you're in Cali with the rest of us Honda tuning suckers, Greddy and Edelbrock are our only choices.
The cops like to profile the honda guys, and I wouldn't risk it on any of your 600 mile trips. You'd be a long way from home if they stop you.

the edelbrock is the most complete carb legal kit available. it's a little pricey but the components in the kit are top notch. all you would need on top of it is a tuned ecu and bigger injectors if you want to make a little more power.
250whp on a stock b18c1 is fine if the engine is healthy.

Well that blows and i am from the awsome state of california so it looks like edllebrock is gonna get my business from what i am getting from u guys. i was under the impression that i would need to internal work to even get a "good boost" out of the turbo
i dont live in cali but from my experience pieceing together a kit is the same, money wise as just buying a kit and with the edlebrock kit out there, it really isnt that bad of a deal. that is prob your best bet.
WHEN IT GETS TO THE INTERNALS I DONT EVEN PLAY AROUND IT GO TO SOMEONE THAT KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND BESIDES IF THEY MESS IT UP THEY PAY NOT ME

Just be sure to get it tuned properly.
A guy at works son tried following the TSI forums on modifying his factory boosted Talon and ended up screwing up his head (bent valves) due to spiking it (I think at least) when he was adding on a manual boost controller. Timing belt jumped during the spike then it was downhill from there. At least that's my theroy.
Good luck. You'll love Boost
