Default Add a cigarette lighter plug...

Ok, question for you electric gurus. I while ago I spliced in another cigarette lighter plug. i did that just because I didnt like seeing my phone charger in the front. The second one is hidden behind the dash. The two plugs are connected in parallel. Up until now I have only used one at a time. My question is is it safe to use them both? That would double the current passing through the power wire. Would that overload anything or blow a fuse? Thanks for any input.

If you are talking about using two cell phone chargers at once; you should have no problem.

If you are talking about one cell phone and also the lighter; then that may be pushing it.

Just unplug the cell phone when you need the lighter.

It's all a matter of how much current you are drawing.

The lighter draws a lot!!! That's why the wire going to it is so large.

Things like a cell phone charger or i-pod power is nothing compared to it.

correct, the phone charger slowly charges, on a low amperage charge, while the lighter is very low resistance to get it hot quickly.
