Default my b18b cable tranny not goin in 5th or reverse!!!help please

i recently bought a 89 civic si hatch with a blown b18b and i jus put a new one but now my tranny doesnt take 5th or reverse !!!

it feels like i takes the gear put wont

WHAT COULD THIS BE

It could simply be that the bolt in the shift linkage is torqued too tightly, in turn not allowing the shifter to move enough laterally to engage the gears. Otherwise, there's no mechanical reason that the two would not be working simultaneously, the selection arms are two totally different components.

sounds like a problem with the linkage to me.

Put the car on jackstands and have a friend put the car thru the gears and just watch the linkage to see if it is binding on anyhitng.


also, when you say it feels like it takes the gear, you mean that you feel it actually engage in the shifter like it normally would? if so, im quite a bit more confused.
