95 Civic Turbo Final Checkist
I just finished installing a turbo on my 95 civic. Engine runs, but i want to make sure everythings fine before i drive it. It has a pherable tuned chip in the ecu running 450 cc DSM injectors. Any tips to know how if it's running Rich/Lean? I just want it to run fine until i can get it on the dyno.
The car feels fine to me, but i want to make sure not to burn the engine if it's lean. How would i know if it is. I read that you can tell by the sound the engine makes. Is there any other way to check? I'm running a 7 ib. wastegate with no mbc.
You need to put a wide band on it. That's the only fool proof way to know if it's running lean/rich. You could put an AEM a/f gauge on it but they're not as accurate.
Is that expensive? I saw one for like $500. Is there no other way to have an idea how it's running? Or at least know it's not running lean? You know, to atleast be able to drive it to the dyno. I also read i can just take the spring out of the wg and disable the turbo completly.
since you replaced the stock injectors.. its messed up all your fuel maps (obviously)
if it was me, i would tow my car to the dyno or put the stock injectors back in until i got to the dyno then put in the dsm's... just whatever you do, don't hit boost or you'll melt your engine

Can i disable the wastegate and put original ecu back in. Will the 450 inj. push stock levels of fuel with oem map? I did this and i'm getting white smoke.
Your stock ecu will idle rough with 450s. white smoke is usually coolant leak. Just because you have the chip doesnt mean it's tuned. And a downloaded map from someone else can still blow ur engine cause every engine is different. Dont need to get a wideband and save the $$$ for the tune unless you know how to tune urself.
Get it tuned or u will pay later. U've been warned...3 times.

Get it dyno-tuned.
If it's a real dyno shop they'll hook it up w/ a wideband O2 sensor and tune the A/F when they tune everything else.
Leaving the stock pherable map in there is pathetic - your engine will die - soon. It needs to get tuned, as good as pherable is, they can't do it perfectly for every car.
Get it dyno tuned, they'll be able to adjust your A/F ratio (they'll have a wideband when they tune it) as well as make sure you're within your block's capability boundaries. Plus you'll have the nice little sheet to prove what you're pushing in terms of hp
.
Dyno tune if you want the engine to last, a "pre-made" base-map can never be as efficient as spending <200 bucks to get it tuned on a dyno (it's usually like 90 / hr. and with teh rate of imports that come into dyno tuning shops - they can usually do dyno tuning relatively quickly).
I'm not dissing pherable, but don't take ur pherable chip and be like "oh yeah - everything's fine" - b/c it's not - those are "guess" settings for your setup - capable of making it to the dyno to get it tuned correctly.
