Options for hot-roddding a Legend.
I am in the market for a new car, and I have found a couple Legends in my area that look decent. There is a sedan with a 6-speed, but it's not a Type-II; just the normal 200-hp version.
I know the C32B will fit, but it might be prohibitively expensive. What kind of mods are common and safe to do with the 200-hp C32A? I'd want somewhere between 230 and 270hp.

If that sedan has a Type 1 engine, it should be a 5 spd rather than a 6 spd. Not that it's a huge issue, but if it truly does have the 6 spd, then either the 6 spd was swapped in or the Type II was swapped out.
OBX is the only company making headers at the moment. Decent gains I suppose for the cost, approx 15 whp for $350. Swapping the Type II intake manifold onto the Type 1 engine helps out quite a bit, if you stick with the Type 1 I would recommend you consider it. I made 7 peak whp from the manifold swap, 20-25 whp past the peak at higher rpms. Picked up 3-4 tenths in the 1/4 as well.
Dave at SMSP made a custom y-pipe for me that yielded 10whp, if you don't want to go the OBX route.
WEB cams offers regrinds, 7-10 whp gain.
Lots of guys are swapping in the C35 from the first gen RL. Good potential if you swap Type II components over onto the 3.5 (cams and manifold).
C32B doesn't work, or not anywhere near a bolt-up proposition, never been done at any rate. Just FYI. Plenty of potential in the Legend/RL engines anyways, cheaper and easier.

IMHO I think Legends and older RL's are the worse Honda/Acura's to own.
They have too many problems with them all the time from what i've seen here at Acura for over 3 years.

What are some of them, if you don't mind expounding?
I'm back in the market, as "Your ITR has been found intact" was a false alarm from my insurance company.
I'll also give your site a look.

Blown head gaskets are the biggest issue on these cars, the cooling system is fairly complex and high maintenance vs. other Hondas. If the car overheats significantly for whatever reason, a BHG often follows soon after. Keeping the cooling system 100% up to par is the main thing you can do to avoid it. FWIW, there are guys on the Legend forums with 300k on the original gaskets and no issues. Maintenance is key. Sometimes a BHG happens anyway, but you do what you can to avoid it.
Aside from that, smaller problems generally. Main relay failure, broken rear trans mount, various potential oil leaks, ABS modulators, faulty door lock actuators. If you buy a Legend in top condition and maintain it, it's not a bad car. The problem is that 90% of them are 12+ years old and beat down. Something else to keep in mind, the Legend is nowhere near as easy to work on vs. an ITR.
All in all, a Legend gives you pretty decent bang for the buck. 94-95 GS's stickered for over $40k. You get a car with some nice luxury features (heated memory seats, power adj. steering column, etc). for a fraction of what it cost new. Take a look around acura-legend.com if you want to learn more about these cars. The average age of forum users over there is around 18 yrs old, so keep that in mind lol. Not quite the ITR forum.
