small hole in slick....tube only option?
not sure if it's worth the chance. think about it. your counting on this tire that now has a failure point to pull you down the track at over 100+ mph in under what? 13secs minium? is your life and your ride worth more than a $160 tire? Don;t get me wrong everyone has to make their own minds up but I'm jsut saying if it was me, that woudl be trashed and I woudl be replacing it.
I would just run tubes. The tires do not have to hold any air pressure if you have tubes in there. From your picture, that does not even look like much of a hole...
i had a hole about the size of a nail, picked it up from e-town, and tubed it for the atco race last year. john from m and h, and that was what he said. i think it is a little more stable, i dont care what people say about weight. my brand new m and h's are tubed.
but tubing is the easiest thing to do and if you are uncomfortable, get a new one.

i just got off of the phone with m/t about this.on my tires,if you spray soapy water around the sidewall, you find all kinds of small leaks.they said it is normal for a tire that is designed to use a tube.he said it would be fine without a tube, you would just have to deal with a slow leak.sucks if you ask me.my m@h tires never leaked

my thoughts exactly... you are constantly changing and checking tire pressure in between runs... so its not a big deal.. as long as its not a big leak

I do drive on these 15 minutes to and from the track (25-30psi)....I don't have any type of trailer or anyone drive with me to hold things.
right now it drops about 1 psi per hour @ 25 psi.....with the wheel on the car.
Is there anything special to know as far as getting the tubes installed?
TIA

Other than the fact you will probably have to drill out the valve stem area to fit the bigger valve stem the tube has? No.
And once you drill it out, good luck ever making the wheel a non-tube wheel again, because it's going to be a PAIN to go find big valve stems.
I just put MT tubes on my wheels and had to drill it out quite a bit.

The right tube in the first place you shouldn't have to drill your wheel.
Even if you do drill it bigger you could always go back to tubeless and use what they call big bottom valves. I have these at work and they are used on alot of tractor/larger truck wheels.
Slicks on the street? wow, I'd run a tube, and also pick up some tire slime too, that way when you run something over on the way there it will fix the hole by the time you get to the track.

it'd probably add about 100 pounds with tools/jack/wheels/etc. I don't really want that weight all in the back of the car. I guess I'm paying for that now though, right? I'll have to compromise somewhere. If I always had someone go with me, that is what I'd be doing.
They are DOT slicks....I realize its still not a "street tire", but I see quite a few people at the track running on et streets (somewhat similar) and leaving on the same tire as well (most of them being a rwd v8). Maybe it is just common around here (not for anything fwd though) in the summer months, I don't know.
