Default Radials/Slicks for 14" Steelies, recommendations?!

I just got 4 14" steelies for free I have a mild LS-T setup making 253whp/222wtq. First time at the track on Kuhmo SPT's, i ran a 13.8@104. Well i want to use the 14" steelies and get some drag radials or slicks for track only. I dont need anything huge because of my power level but something to get me the traction i need off the line ( right now its 2.35 60' times ). My original thought is 205/50/14 BFG's. Someone mentioned the 225/45/14 BFG's but i read that those are a little too wide for 14" steelies. Anyone have any drag radial suggestions or smaller slick recommendations that fit 14" steelies? Thanks for the help.

that 205/50/14 BFG drag radial is a pretty sick tire -- works really well

It's the stock LS tranny, there are a few people around here that ran MT 24.5x8x14 on stock steelies. It just seems too big for my power level.

What about MT 20x6-14 slick? Seems like the appropriate size for my power level.

20" slicks are useless

acually 22" slicks are useless

as for 24.5 being to big........ehh At least your going to 60" just give them some more air pressure.....thats the size i would get if i was you to will not be dissapointed

I beg to differ. If your gearing and power level compliments them 22" slicks can work well. I have gone multiple 1.6x 60ft times on 22" slicks on a 15x7 stock wheel. This is in a 2700lb street car on pump gas.

its not really the 60" that hurts...

he will have to shift to 5th with that small of a tire...
I had a stock ls with 262whp on stock ls tranny and i was holding the rev limiter @7100rpm with a 23" tire @113mph I had to raise it to 7600 to get an 118mph trap...and i have a similar setup in my daily and went 121 with a 24.5 Tire

The 20x8-14 are way to small for your car. That slick work well for cars with about 200 whp. My n/a b16 civic pulls off low 1.7 60's with it so prior statements about it being useless are untrue. Jus my opinion don't spend you money on drag radials even if you got free steel rims. I've seen to many racers break good transmissions due to wheel hoop from drag radials. Spend the money and by wheels and slicks. It will pay in the long run. Good luck.

Thats for sure. I just make the traps @8,500 with the 20. The low gearing would cause him to short shift it getting in to the high gears earlier.

thanks for all the suggestions, i think i've decided on the MT 24.5x8x14. I guess i wasnt thinking about the gearing with a smaller tire and the LS 5th gear is crap for acceleration at my power.

last year i started on 22" tires with a GSR tranny with 450whp revving to 9000 and I was stuck at like 11.60-.50 because i was shiffting to 5th in the 1/8 it really sucked

24.5 is a all-around a good tire....if you having problems in the top end just get em a little more pressure to help make up for the drag

i think 24.5 is gonna be too big with the ls trans.

22-23" will be better suited to get you at the finish line nice and deep into 4th

im sure you can also run a 205 to like 215 or so bfg radial and be ok. im running 205/50 bfg radials making over 300hp and i dont spin out of the hole
