N00b here: installing a sub & amp combo.
Hi guys, I'm planning on buying my friend's combo that comes with a 10 and an Alpine amp. I don't have a picture of the amp yet to show the different connectors and ask how to hook them up but I guess I have some questions. For some reason, he said the amp doesn't have connectors for the front speakers, only the rear. Now I've been reading and some people say that the fronts provide most of the sound, although, mines are only 3.5"s so I don't know. He said I can 'double up' the front and rear connections but they'll be weaker? Now I have to look at the big three upgrade. Do you guys have pictures of the process? I'm using this link http://forum.realmofexcursion....t=924 and pictures would reaaally help! Thanks in advance

you will pretty much follow that write up. I be doing one with pictures shortly. Possibly sell them as a vehicle specific kit. As far as the amp it might be a mono amp. That means it has one channel and is usually a sub amp or center channel amp. Do you know what model amp or have a picture of it. This will help us help you out better.
Here are some pictures:

I know the ground goes to a bare metal part in the trunk but what about the others?

I don't know where this wire goes to:

I will be heading to Walmart to get a wiring kit soon.

That is a two channel amp. It could be used to push a pair front stage speakers in stereo or be used as a mono amp for a sub. By the looks of it and the position of the screws it was used in a bridge mono set up. And thats making the amp a one channel. IF you look at the amp you will see above the speaker leads were it says bridge. You will attacth the positive from you sub wire to it and the neg wire to the negitive side.
I'd like to learn this by myself as I bought the 4 gauge wire and everything already for the big three upgrade. I guess I can have my HU power the speakers and have the amp power the sub only?

Just a crappy Jensen CD4100K or something like that. I just bought my supplies for the big three, just waiting to get an inline fuse thing for one of the three connections.

What speakers are you running as components? With that amp and the setup that you have alluded to having I would use the amp to power the sub only. When you have better components then an upgraded headunit can power those (fronts/tweeters/rears) or you can run seperate amp for speakers and then your other for the sub.
The amp that you have isn't bad at all it's moderate and will do fine for your sub. Like Desmon said there are two wires that come out of your sub (positive/negative). Wire these into the (+/-) in your amp. Battery is where your power source goes into, remote is from the head unit, and ground is just that a ground wire.
Typically you run your ground wire from under your backseat with an eye connector screwed down. The remote powers your amp on and off. Otherwise your amp would just be on all the time. You can adjust the output of your amp on the amp itself. There should be two controls on the side. Gain/Output or something. You can adjust both of these and see how your setup sounds. Then through your headunit you can probably further adjust the sub (+ or -) depending on what your listening too.

You have a 1x140W RMS into 4 ohms amp.
What is the model number of the 10" sub, or it's continuous power handling, [RMS]?
What kind of sub box is it in, sealed or vented?
You do not need a 4ga power wire for that amp unless the lead is going to be longer then about 15'.

Use the dark blue first. Its the power antenna wire. If the radio shuts off when you put in a cd then use the red accesory wire. The reason for this is because if you shut off the radio. The amp might play pick up noise or a long thummping noise if you turn off the radio from the headunit.

Hi guys I got everything connected and CDs play fine but how come I can't really hear my MP3 player anymore? I have it hooked onto the AUX connection and when I try to use it, I can barely hear anything. Let me know, thanks.
Yeah I'm pretty sure that it's plugged into the input. Someone recommended a line level amplifier like this:

do you this it'll help?

Hey guys how can I get the sub to hit a little cleaner and tighter? I like the sound my dad's stock '99 Camry makes but not mines -_-. The box looks to be a sealed one, maybe the wood is coming apart? Would the Bass EQ **** have something to do with this? The setting is already -6 (max) on my HU and it's a bitch to unscrew the amp to adjust the gain and such.
