Default My main problem is blow by: Had 3 motor with blow-by

Hello everyone
Thank You For Reading

My main problem is blow by: I don’t know how to prevent it...

I have had 3 build Up with nice set-up's I’m about to do my four but I don’t want to make the same mistakes once again

First motor was Stock GSR on 9psi ran great made 303whp had a moroso catch can. after 3 weeks of pressing the car the motor gets a different sound I notice is not as fast. I do a compression test and it has 205-190-200-60 on piston #4 when I had done a compression test and it was 210 across before...

Second motor was another Stock GSR on 11psi ran perfect at dyno and all, made 339whp I put Victor X and a 70mm throttle body and moroso catch can, motor had 220 across at the dyno 3 days later it had 180-200-60-170 at this point am like WTF is going on everyone is running out there why am I getting this problems

So after two motors I decided to put JE piston & Eagle rods. Well good I said am not having any more problem. put the motor together and I get 190 across.
I tune it one more time at the dyno it makes 403whp I am super happy, is running so hard. after 4 weeks again the motor starts to sound different am like, not again please god, I do a compression test and it was 190-180-190-80 on piston four

I don’t know why I have so much blow by how do you stop it. Every time that it has blow there was a massive amount of oil in the engine bay that was spit out by the moroso catch can (all around the filter)

THANK YOU FOR READING!

Thats more then just blow-by. Sounds like you are good at breaking pistons. Are these pump gas motors...how much timing are you running?

Are you getting mad blow-by before or after you toast your piston rings? How is your catch can hooked up?

before and the after. the catch can is hook up from the two seal plugs in the back of the block that the are two big alens, I put two h22 plus in them, were the stock pcv goes I put a freeze plug

You need to find out where the compression is going, do a leak down. Sounds like a mild detonation.

Did you use the same tune on all engines?
how was the tuning done? ems? AFR's? ignition values?

for me it sounds like:

you made the same error when building the engines (assembly error) (which i don't know, because it's allways the same cyl.

or

you have a bad tune...

maybe also both... i don't think blow-by isn't your main problem here. by the way, b18's allways have massive blow-by especialy when they are build.

did you have disassembled the engines or just checked the compression? what exactly has gone bad? how does the plugs look like, how the pistons and cylinders?

i think it was detonation from what i know until now.

Best regards

Get your injectors flow tested, sounds like one is constantly leaning out and melting your piston.

Hopefully you took the motors apart to see what possibly caused or was a result (which would lead you to the possible causes) of the failure.

If so, what did the pistons look like from the cyl's with low compression on the first 2 motors? Melted, cracked ring landing, etc?

Sounds like tuning issues or a bad injector as others have said above.

Tune: has being Crome Pro
Air/Fuel ration: has always 11.4-11.8 perfect nothing higher
Timing: little less than stock 23.5-24 around stock timing nothing more

The first two motor were bone stock from Honda. yes I did open up every blow motor piston were in perfect shape, like I mean no marks nothing.

first motor I took out the pistons an took them to get check at a machine shop they told me the ring Grover were bad

Second motor it was the piston rings (this was a different GSR motor that was also stock from Honda)

the third motor that did was the second motor but with new pistons and new rods and new piston ring
when I blow I open it up and there was no visible problem (were the ring JE rings) New

You're running nearly stock timing under boost?

yeah some what but is still less timing than stock. I seen car that have more timing than stock on boost application and they are still running

your running way too much timing 24* @ how many psi who ever is tuning this thing is trying to make power and not reliability thats the reason your motors melt or crack ring lands, so much timing and it gets hot *** hell.. any one else got some insight.

Running that much timing and the fact that crome that is public adds more timing on top in vtec is your problem.

You have any pics of any of the parts or spark plugs?

that is WAYY to much ignition timing unless you are running like 3psi max.

you dont have blow-by problems......you have piston melting pre-ignition problems.

find a new tuner...

Sorry guys I was wrong it was not 23.5-24 timing what I had, I was a lot less it was .75 for every pound of boost. and I forgot to mention I did have a 3bar map so boost was very accurate so it couldn’t of being the timing

Sorry guys but it can’t be the tuning there is nothing melted, at all.

You are confusing....If you are serious about the pistons and rings NOT BEING SHOT...then the problem is you are probably cooking your valves and valve guides....

CHeck the head 10 times before you put everything together...

Get another tuner......whoever is tuning this thing is screwing up.

Or you just run it lean, too much timing or both......either way, you are starving out #4 and frying your ring land and rings. If its not the rings or piston, then its your valves.

#4 is getting too hot, and not enough fuel is what it sounds like.

you should post your fuel and ignition maps
and some pictures of the pistons and the valves if any thing the signs of anything being messed up in the head would show on the exhaust side. post pics it will net you a better results in an answer.

This is how I had it hooked up
The top one to the driver side
The bottom one to the passenger side
The drain I had it T to the passenger side so it could returned the oil back
