Default 4th gen vs 3rd gen gas mileage?

Hey,

whats the 4th gen's gas mileage compared to the 3rd gens? My friend says his friends 4th gen uses twice as much gas as his 3rd.

I am thinking of buying a 4th gen so I want to know what im in for running cost wise

Cheers

-Mike

Your friend is full of crap Lots of guys get 30+ on the highway in 4th gens and 3rd gens probably do too. It's all about drving style, tires, weight, etc, etc...

Tell him he needs a major tune up on his 4th gen.

yeah i thought that sounded really bazzar, he also uses a low octane fuel i guess the ecu would compensate and use more fuel right?

An untuned wide/part-throttle can be an issue too......that was mine. I went from ~15mpg to well over 20mpg just by tuning. I have gotten as much as 29mpg with Pure HWY driving running stage 1 Cams and a chipped ECU/VAFC cruising at 75-80mph.
Just for reference......VTEC Kills economy! I have gotten at little as 7-8mpg while on the RoadCourse! Ever wonder what 80% VTEC driving does? There you go.

Yeah. Without knowing how the driver actually uses the car you can't say one generation gets better or worse mileage.

For example, I get anywhere between 10mpg and 35mpg in my 4th gen. Some might say, "WTF man!? you need a tune superbad and stop driving it if you're only getting 10mpg" Well that's fine and all but I get around 35 on the highway. On the track I get 10.

So who's to say what one gets over the other? Depends on the driver and kind of driving.
