Default exhaust question

ok guys, i have an ep3 and i want to do exhaust the cheaper way...i know its just as effective as buying an exhaust sytem from HKS or Greddy or anyone esle that makes em. Im gonna have the local exhaust shop to bend me the pipes for the whole system. First is 2.5" a good size for after market specs? and second is there anyway i can bypass the cost of a test pipe and still not throw a code? Can i straight pipe it headers back, use the stock reonator, and throw my coffee can back on there? please anyone that knows give me any info you can. Thanks

well 2.5 back is great for minimal mods with no engine work, you can run a straight pipe back from the header and have you exhaust shop weld a bung onto it for your o2 sensors, and then use defoulers to clear the cel.. make sure you get mandrel bends and not crush bends, and you won't be able to reuse you stock resonator, will not work with a 2.5 inch system, you can add a long one that the shop prolly has in stock and lessen to the noise with out sacraficing any real power. your curent "coffee can" will not sufice either if it dose not have a 2.5 inch intlet, and to be honest that is where you need to buy a universal from borla or apexI or who ever makes quality ones.. other wise you will end up with bad sounds and rattles coming from the cheap-o can that shops carry..

so i would recomend if you do have a shop bend you a custom 2.5 inch exhaust system that you do it header back, have bungs welded on for your 02 sensors, use defoulers to cure the cel light on your dash and buy a long resonator and a quality muffler from a good company, i might also sugest a section of flex pipe off the header to help with engine flex.
