Alpine CDA 7987/fantom face question
Does anyone here have one of those alpine cda 7987/fantom face head units installed in their crx? I had one that I never installed on a car from years ago...it was just sitting in my closet, so I decided to swap out my sony explode (it finally died) and installed the alpine.
Only problem is that the fantom face smacks into the trim/molding that runs under the climate controls when the motorized face plate flips open/up and tries to move back (it flips up OK, it just can't slide back all the way when it's up, then it hits the trim, beeps and moves forward again. It also prevents the unit from tilting to the position I had previously set it to. I dunno if this is hurting the unit or causing excessive wear on the gears or??????)
...I don't really want to hack and slash at the trim piece, but I thought I'd ask if anyone had the same problems, and if so what you did to work around this issue?
Thanks

There was a setting (if my memory isn't as bad as i think it is) that controls how much if at all it slides back. I can vaguely remember how to get to it on a 7998 but that's a completely different unit as far as the displays go i think.
Thanks for your input
Maybe I just have to fiddle with it some more?
I tried it with the trim off...and what happens is it opens, flips up, slides back, then slides forward and tilts to the previous position. The problem is of course, with the trim on, the initial slide back causes the bump and grind and then it won't slide back forward and tilt to the position I want it in.
Anyway, thanks again.

Actually your right and we were never able to figure that problem out. Can you flip the honda radio kit over? You might have to dril some new holes but I would imagine that wouldn't be a huge deal and you'd just have the pocket on top.

Actually this sounds like a pretty neat idea thanks
Only problem is that I'm still hackin' apart the plastic which is something I didn't really want to do. But...this is starting to look like a "no win" situation with the HU. Oh well...it's got to fit in there somehow.
I appreciate the ideas. Thanks again.
