Default Cops hassling you?

Finnaly received my Factor X hood today and noticed that it came with an "For Off-road Use Only" stickers. This got me wondering...

For those with carbon fiber hoods, do you ever get pulled over for your hood or have you ever been told that you had to remove it? I hope this never happens to me because I know I would have to remove it .

Something else I just happened to noticewhile under the hood... Are Injen/AEM CAI legal? And if so, how do you proove this?

Just wondering how many ITR owners are forced to deal with these legal issues...

Alex - who just happened to think of these things AFTER I spent my money

I have a carbon fiber hood but I never got pulled over for it. As long as you injen has a carb sticker on it you're fine. If you are still worried get the ICEBOX.

Holy ****, i just got hassled bad last week. I was gonna post this up. Cops pulled me over 7:30 in the morning. I saw them in the middle lane waiting at a light. I went by them in the right lane cuz i was making a right on red. They instantly came after me. They pulled me over and kept insisting i was speeding. When i would'nt admit to it they got angry. I honestly wasn't speeding so i wasn't gonna say i was and apologise. Well, my license had just expired, and i didn't have my insurance card with me. They frisked me, put me in the back of the cop car, and searched my car. They wouldn't let me drive the tenth of a mile to my job. They towed my car. The bastards even kept my old license so i would have a hard time getting a new one. I missed half a day of work at DMV, and i have to appear in court June 10th because it was considered a misdemeanor...Un-Fcking believabe!!!
I too have a CF hood, but the tow-truck driver told me it's because all the F&F ricers are racing around town and the cops are cracking down....BUT I'M 32 YEARS FCKING OLD!! I'm ready to sell my ITR cuz i'm sick of getting lumped in with the rest of them...The ignorant cop even laughed when he asked me what kind of car it was. When i told him the Type R part he laughed like i was making it up like the rest of the idiots that slap the big R allover the place

I used to get pulled over All the time. So I am still cautious when I see a cop or I'm driving near one, But now with my latest setup I haven't been hassled in over 7 months :crosses fingers:

Old Setup - JDM Front without lip, Had clear sidemarkers and had white turn signals instead of amber, OEM HID, Tanabe RM, Stock Engine, JDM 4-1

New Setup - JDM Front with lip and ARC splitters, OEM HID, Amber lighting and sidemarkers, Spoon N1, Toda Header, Spec C's, SW388

You'd think I would be More noticeable now

For Mods.
I've never been pulled over for speeding, When I have its been BS stuff Like 5mph over the limit, or an area where the limit went from 40 to 30 and I didnt slow to 30 quick enough
Besides that its always been more BS stuff like: Lights are too bright (HID), Exhaust is too loud, Car matches anothers description (BS Excuse to pull you over), and one of my favorites "You looked like you were going fast" LOL

I've probably recieved roughly 25-30 tickets/warnings since I've had my license, always BS stuff. Good thing I'm good in court fighting them, because I've won about 80% of them
What was really funny is in MA when you get 5 tickets/accidents in a 3 year time they make you attend a "Driving" school. Its an 8 hour class, Favorite part was when they went around the room and asked what the last ticket/offense was. A few of the people just had bad luck or were horrible drivers a few of them were there because of a DUI or even worse one guy beat the crap outta a guy who kept slamming the brakes on in front of him and the other just got out of jail for hitting 2 cars while Drunk Those were all their last offenses, Mine was that a Cop pulled me over and said my lights were too bright (OEM HID) and then gave me a ticket for not having a seatbelt on after I took it off to get my license right in front of him

Damn that sucks!

to b!tch cops

Are these tickets fix-it or just pay-em-and-go? It would be hard to fix all those mods, well at least for a guy like me with limited resources and no shop

We Don't have Fix it tickets here. You either fight it or pay it. If you get pulled over for the same thing again you get another ticket.

As far as MA State Troppers Most are good Some are bad, same with any local cops too. 90% of my tickets/warnings have been from suburbian cops with nothing better to do.

I totally know what u mean I've had my car for only a couple of months. On the 3rd day after I registered the car, and a cop was driving behind me. I got pulled over and was asked "if I just registered the car?". But he had no reason to pull me over, I was't speeding cuz I was only goin about 50km (approx. 35 mph?) and knew that he was behind me and didn't want any trouble. So it seemed like he looked me up in the system and stopped me just because it was an R or thought I was a punk racer. By the way, I live in hickville, Canada and the import seen is barely known here. so what gives man?.

Here in VA i get my plates run at LEAST 4 times a week by cops that behind me. I can see them in my rear view punching away at their little laptops.

While this is somewhat annoying, it is also good because if my car was strolen they would know, and that makes me feel a tiny bit better.

Whenever you add an "attention getter" to your car you can expect more attention/hassles from cops.. CF hoods are VERY visible on light colored cars, shiny 4"+ grapefruit shooters making loud noises are too.. as are intakes at wot.. all this crap will get you more attention.. I solved my issues before by installing a rollcage, cops never did **** but look when I had a cage in the car.. even running (effectively) open header at 6000-6500rpm at WOT.. you could see the cop look over but they never did anything.. a friend on the other hand would drive around in his 99 GSR, stock wheels, stock exhaust, just intake, .75" lower H&R OE Sport springs, yellow shocks (bilsteins) and very dark tinted windows and get pulled over by the same cops I'd drive by everyday at 90-100mph on the interstate.. go figure.

Sorry to here about that sounds like a tough spot.

Not trying to start a flameware here but, what is so unbelievable about that? You didn't have a valid license or insurance. The misdemeanor might be a little harsh but the cops don't make up the laws they follow the penal code. They have no say wether it infraction, misdeanor, or felony. Don't get me wrong I've been hassled plenty of times too, but I take my lumps when I deserve them.

Back to CF hoods "not being street legal". I suspect its a liablity issue. If they clearly state "Not of use on public roadways" (or something simalar) then they have told you not to use on a street car. So when it gets cracked, damaged, or causes some type of injury during a crash, they can say "was it in the street?...well then your on your own."

I don't care about getting the ticket for my expired license, or not having proof of insurance, but the fact that they pulled me over for speeding when i absolutely wasn't in the first place pisses me off. They had no radar, they just saw(and heard) me go by and decided to pull me over and check it out. I have stock exhaust, so it isn't that loud. I had all my work tools in the car with me. It was obvious i was just driving cross town to work, and yet they couldn't cut me any slack and watch me drive around the corner to work. I would'nt have cared about the ticket, but did i have to get towed a tenth mile for $75.00??!! Do you really agree with that ****? And they shouldn't have given me a ticket for speeding either. They were just being ****** that day...

Like I said before "I'm not trying to start a flame war here." I don't disagree that cops take liberties on who they pull over and why. Towing the car.... that is the chance taken by driving with an expired license and no insurance.

I used to live in Tracy, a small farming town in Central CA. The redneck cops would pull me over at least 1 per week for various reasons. I had brand new 2" dual exhaust (not the ITR) with decent mufflers installed form the muffer shop. The cops pulled me over and told me it was too loud. I showed them the reciept (all of 10 days old) and told them to talk to Jim at the shop about. The cop got an ugent call about donuts or something so that was the end of that conversation.

But a week later no side mirror, car wrong color, visual obstruction (rear window louvers), car too low, no front bumper, stereo too loud, etc... Basically being a teen in a small town.

Most cops I know in populated Cali don't want to tow cars, too much paper work. But when you get into small towns they have nothing better to do. One trick is to leave a fix-it violation deliberatly on your car. Then the cop feels good becuase he "bagged a criminal" with a cracked windsheild, and you get off with fixing something that had to be fixed any way. Fix the car get is signed off no big deal.

Also it could have been worse, they could have arrested you, and impounded the car. So feel lucky and next time have everything in order. Without license and insurance it makes it tough for them to let you drive anywhere. What if you got into an accident in the .1 miles they let you drive? Can they be sued?

Next time they pull you over (and they will) have everything looking good to present the right image you want to project to them. I think your probably an ok guy just trying to make a living, so if you can project that to the police and your life will be easier.
