I am just wondering how hard it is to remove from the engine while the engine is in the car. I just finished a transmission swap and it was a big pain in the *** but wasn't too bad. In comparison, how hard is it to take off the intake manifold? whats the best way to take it off? in two pieces or as a whole? i have a helms manual to help but some input from members would be nice. Any write ups?
personally compared to a trans swap its easier. i found it eaiest to use wobbles and extensions from the bottom for the lower nuts. taking it out in one peice was easier then two peices for me only becuase there was less steps.
I actually found a box wrench to be the easiest on those bolts... all except the one on the bottom closest to the passenger side, that one i used a 6" extension on (I think it was 6".. might have been 3"). Anyways, I'm a big guy and it was still a lot easier to get my arm up there and get a 1/3 a turn on the bolt with a smaller box wrench, after that use your fingers to un-thread the bolts.
Also, unbolt the thermostat housing and pull it away from the intake mani, that coolant pipe running underneath the intake manifold makes it a bitch to get intake mani off or back on unless you un-attach it.
And drain your coolant
(duh)
