Hello all,

I'm considering installing 205/55-15 tires (Bridgestone RE750) mounted on 15x6.5 wheels onto a 01 civic ex coupe. The car currently has stock springs and KYB red struts. Will I have any issues with tire rubbing with the 205? I did a quick search of this forum but did not find anything on 205s.

Yep. Even the 205/55/15 is a bit shorter than the oem tire. I put some 205/50/15's on the car once just to see how it looked, and the tire was too short to use as a daily.

There is no reason to stray from the oem diameter unless you have a specific purpose in mind.

I put a 205-50-15 (it was much cheaper to find in that size than others) - but I found that the speedo isnt off my much.

@ 45 mph, it was only off by 1 mph. @70, around 2 mph.

Actually compared to stock, you're 4.9mph off at 60mph.

 

How about 205/60/15 on Si's rims

oem spec, i'd go with 205/55/15. it's the perfect size IMO.

You think they will look good on my s-tech's? i have 60's right now, but need to get new tires cuz one has a bump/bulge on it

The 55's will look just fine. But, in all honesty, I'd stick with the 60's, since it'll keep your speedometer accurate, and also give you a shade better fuel mileage (less rotations to do certain speeds).

Cool, and also the 60's are cheaper on tirerack than the 55's.

You are correct the 205/55 is about 1.87% smaller circumference (a 205/60 is about 1.5% larger) than a stock 185/65. I felt since I was going wider, there would be less chance of interferece with a slightly shorter tire than a slighter taller tire. The main reason for the 205/55 is that the RE750 is available in that size. There are very few z rated (or better) tires available in stock diameters other than the 205/55. I am quite familier with the RE750 on other vehicles. It is a tire that meets my needs nearly perfectly.

Having said that, I would be open to using a 195 tire if some knows of a 195/60 that is a summer Z rated performance tire comparable to the Bridgestone RE750.

On my '01 the OEM spec size is 185/60/15, currently have 205's though and I love em.

 

im on OEM specs on my stock SI's and now that im dumped, it looks wayyyy better than i thought it would. If only i wouldnt scrape over everything...

That is interesting. Are you referring to a '01 Civic (sold in the US)? The '01 Civic EX Coupe I am working on came with a OE size of 185/65-15. That is consistent with the info in the owner's manual. If the OE size is a 185/60-15 then a 50 series 205 would be the size closer to the stock diameter, not the 205/55 I was considering.

 

The older 7th gens came stock with a 185/70-14 or 185/65-15 . Later that switched to a 195/60-15.

That makes sense. That was my understanding as well. All three of those sizes have a very similar diameter.

whoa thats smaller overall than stock on stock ride height...oh man your gonna have massive wheel gap and those wheels are gonna look tiny
