Elevation in realation to ET's?
Im curious if anyone has raced at both high and low elevation strips. The drag stip I race at is about 3000 ft. Pretty high! A couple weeks ago when I was there this full race civic showed up, he said that he ran a 7.5 in the 1/8 at his track (5 ft. above sea) and at my track he ran a best of 8.3 in the 1/8. Does this mean its possible for me to run .8 faster at a lower elevation?
I've always heard you lose 2mph per 1000 feet above sea level, but i'm not sure how true that is. its due to the fact that the denser air creates more horsepower.
there is a calculator "somewhere" on the net that will correct your times for altitute.

The reason for the higher time at higher elevation is the lower level of OXYGEN. Thats why its slightly harder to breath in the mountains. While the amount of air drawn in remains the same, the percentage of the OXYGEN needed for combustion is diminished. So this results in a lean air/fuel mixture.
Anything car you run up high, will run quicker down low.

so if I ran a 14.9 in Tucson, what would that be on sea level? I don't know how high tucson is above sea level though. Thanks, I felt kindda better now. I was disappointed when I ran my car with this time. I was hoping to get to low 14's.

Also remember your car isn't fully tuned yet.
Yes, I personally have seen .8 sec faster times at sea level than 3100ft.

Assuming your track is at 3100 feet above sea level, a 14.900 would be about 14.344 at sea level.
The correction factor was .9627
@3100 ft. corrected e.t. = your e.t. * .9627
corrected mph = your mph * 1.0395
Pretty good!
