HELP! No vtec . . Rev limiter @ 5k h22a . .
** Searched vtec problem, rev limiter, no vtec **
I have a problem with my car bouncing off the rev limiter at the point where my vtec should be kicking in. I didn't have this problem before I installed all of these parts:
Skunk2 Stage II camshafts
SKunk2 Cam Gears
Skunk2 Titanium Valve springs & retainers
Ferrea Valves
Water pump
Timing & balancer belts
Auto tensioner & tensioner bracket
Optima yellow top
all seals along the way
I have checked my vtec solenoid everything checks out with helms.
Oil change - mobile 1 synthetic
My mechanic doesn't know whats wrong, he's going back through it all this week. I have used honda-tech before when doing my AT->5sp swap and you guys made it simple. Just wondering if anyone can help me once again.
Thank you much!
Lee

Those are the first 2 questions I asked . .
CEL is always on because of the 5sp. swap, mechanic claims that is the only one.
He timed it twice . . I hope he has it right.

well here what you need to do to check and make sure his *** is right. because if that **** snaps while driving those pretty lil valves of your are gone. get the block at tdc. make sure the arrows on the cam gears are lined up pointing north. then were the block meets the tranny there is a rubber groment. pull that out and you should see a T in there on the pressure plate. if all that is right then your fine but i doubt it is especially if you have adjustable cam gears.
Cool, The cam gears are adjustable . . I guess I need a class called timing101. I will do some searching and let him know.
Thanks.
Thanks.

agreed been there done that

While your at it convert the auto ecu to a manual one. Do a search on here, its really simple just a lil soldering. I did it on my swap and it got rid of the bogging and CEL.

Awesome . . thanks for the detailed thread. Only had that CEL for 2 years now. Sounds like a project for Wednesday.
I don't have any EMS yet. Still researching all the different ones. any suggestions?
I told my mechanic that everyone says that the timing is off and he claims that it is all correct . . soo he's putting it all back together and I will be picking the car up tomorrow.
How can i check my own codes?

i bet the computer is wondering WTF is going on. Running all that on the stock computer isnt the smartest thing in the world.
and if your "mechanic" doesnt know how to pull a cel code then hes not much of a mechanic. A paperclip and knowing what the numbers represent is about like a warm apple pie.
so you have CEL's. your first priority should be figuring out why the engine is throwing the specific check light.

checking it for OBD2 is that same as OBD1??

the fact that your hitting the 5k rev limiter means your ECU is seriously pissed about something.
in a wonderful world if you just had a vtec problem the car would be redlining at 6500. the 5k limit tells me something more is going on you should conver the Ecu to menual and then see if you can get any other codes out of it. you say you have had this CEL for 2 years and vtec worked fine all before this?

why? its a service connector. Put something in there to ground it out and watch the flashes on the dash.
OBDII and OBDI codes are all the same IIRC, OBDII just has more trouble codes.

makes sense .. I will get the ecu swapped over to manual, and I should be able to tell more i'm sure. Should have done it a long time ago.
I will post an update after I pick the car up tomorrow. Time to start reading up!

obdII has a port where you hook up a code reader and it will give you the codes. i don't remember being able to pull the codes w/ a paper clip on my obdII integra like i've been able to on all of my obdI hondas.
however, if you're driving the car anyway, drive to an auto zone (or someplace similar) and they should do the diagnostic scan for you and be able to tell you what codes the computer is throwing.
