Default ASR brace necessary on an ek w ITR sway?

okay i know this has been covered a bunch of times, but i need to know personally because i have never been able to find a definite answer. My friends are real into auto-x and id really like to start gettin into it as well.. i have koni yellows, just ordered Ground controls with 500/450 spring rates...and im getting an ITR rear swaybar...ive been told 2 things, its really not necessary to get an asr brace and i just need something like a beaks kit ...and some people say ek's need a brace like a comptech or ASR to handle the itr sway without tearing the subframe...idk any help woulod be appreciated

BTW i have a 99 si

I know that most people would suggest to use something more than just the beaks kit.

I have a dc2, and I have the beaks kit, but from what I've read, I would definitely get the ASR brace.

I hope this helps.
Ive read that the subframe in EKs are weaker or built different, so it needs more protection than a dc2 or eg would.

Necessary, no, but HIGHLY, EXTREMELY recommended, ecspecially if you're getting into auto-x, if your subframe tears, you're in a world of hurt -_-

Beaks is pretty good, but I don't like how it sits so low, but ASR is probably the best one IMHO

If you're autoxing, then yes. It is needed. ASR or comptech.

Don't forget to polish.

Get it, end of story.

If you drive an Ej6 you don't have welded backing plates, those only came on the Si. And those are really only good for it's stock (19mm) sway bar.

ITR sway will definately need the asr brace, $180 and knowing you wont tear your subframe is a good investment.

yeah i already decided on the ASR brace...and BTW an si rear sway is only 13mm(trust me i have one)...im gettin a good price on the ITR rear sway, and the asr brace isnt that expensive so after i finish gettin all the parts together for my HID retrofit ill pick up the ASR brace/ITR rear sway and ill be set

Will, you're a hardparker. You dont need an asr brace for the one time your car MIGHT see an autox course this year.

i have run a beaks kit with a 21mm rear sway bar DAILY for over a year, no bends/tears on my frame. i track my car, but i do have spirited driving, especially on mountain roads and on/off ramps. rear springs are neuspeed sports (i forgot the rates?)

Im interested in running a 13mm si sway bar on my EJ8. I know i would need the bar, endlinks, and mounting bushings. but would i need the mounting plates that go behind the subframe?

Get the ASR brace kit or Beaks kit with homemade reinforcement plates.

If you don't, you WILL tear the metal apart.

I asked myself the same question.. ASR brace necessary on an ek w ITR sway? except i have a del sol

I ordered the beaks kit 2days ago..

I have the ASR brace with a ST sway bar, I think I will run both... the beaks kit the ASR brace and ST waybar.

I heard the stock mounting points can tear under the shear load of adding an aftermarket sway bar.

Decide for yourself; do you drive aggressive enough to tear the frame apart when cornering? Do you need it?

ifso

Use metal to redistribute the load more effectively/evenly while lowering chances of tearing. Washers, backing plates and nylon locknuts with cromoly hardware or omni's titanium hardware should do the trick.

The plates that come with the ASR kit should be sufficient but, I like the idea of using ST backing plates and smaller hardware to place the majority of the load/strain on the braces and the hardware, instead of the frame.

Use a similar sequence as tightening lugs when torquing to spec

goodluck

Nothing goes behind the subframe atleast for me when I put that bar on my Civic. I don't have a subframe brace because it isn't that big. I've used my car for Auto-x and have shitty roads and no tearout.

I am running the assr and the same rear sway on a 00 si.I did lots of research and the beaks was known to tear out the subframe also but it was only one or two cases.I would just get the asr since its not that much money for the brace compared to what it would cost to get the subframe fixed if it diesnt hold up.
