It is not the same. Similar, yes. But not identical. The heads have different casting numbers. The blocks are different - the 86-89 cast for early 84-87 style motor mounting, the ZC cast for 88+ motor mounting.
The water pumps are totally different, the timing gears are different, the list of details goes on.
What are you trying to do?
Hcivic88, the ZC is not the same as 90-93 integra. The ZC is a 1.6 and part of the "D series" family, the 90-93 integra is 1.8 and part of the "B series" family.

They made ZC's in 84-87 civics and in 88-91. These motors are different when it comes to mounting. You can get a a ZC for your 84-87 but make sure you specify for those years and not 88-91 because they are different. There really is no significant difference between the 84-87 ZC and the 86-89 integra motors. My suggestion is go with the 86-89 integra motor because theyre going to be very easy to find in junkyards and maybe even engine distributors and they bolt right in. The ZC isnt worth the trouble your going to go through to find it. Theyre pretty much the same motor. But also you can use the cams, cam gears and intake manifold from the newer ZC(88-91) from which i hear they have a better profile.
