got a 91 civic std.what can i do? where should i start?

FIRST thing, would be brakes and suspension. Make it controlable before you make it fast.

transplant the biggest motor you can afford. I wouldn't fool around with anything smaller than a B18A/B - that includes the torqueless B16A.

The biggest bang for your buck is going to be a B20 out of a CRV (not the newly redesigned model).
