Paint Protectant?
I just ordered my Fit and it should arrive in 6-8 weeks. I've read a lot of posts about having a problem with the paint chipping, and I'm really **** about my car looking as clean as possible. For those of you with the protectant package, has it actually helped against the chipping? When my bf bought his 06 si, a friend that is the parts manager at a Honda dealership said the protectant was not worth the money. However, if the quality of the paint on the Fit is less than that of the si, maybe it would be worth it? Feel free to share your 2 cents...
I've owned an 06 Civic and now I currently own a Fit. The paint quality is pretty much the same. [not good]
When I bought my Fit, I asked if the paint protection/warranty protects against chips. I was met with a quick "No.".

The paint on my Civic came off with a hose when I sprayed the chips while rinsing the car.

My lip got hit pretty bad, (pretty bad in my eyes) but the rest can be fixed with some touch up paint I guess. My Civic on the other hand, there was no hope there... it had to go. (for more reasons than paint)

from what i heard about the paint protection thing...its actually bull **** they do not add a special coat to ur paint job....they only service it, when u bring it back dealer and do a full polish on ur car...and that when the coat (wax) so if your paying that extra G's that they charge on the car....i think ur wasting your money...
From what I understand they changed to a water base paint and have had problems ever since. I think that was back in 2000 or so.
That's all autos not just Honda and I don't care to hunt down the sources right now but the info is out there on it.
It's something the EPA came up with and set guidelines. Water base paint is better for the environment. It just doesn't hold up worth a flip on cars.

Paint protectant protects against environmental stuff like bird doo and chemical stuff like acid rain. It doesn't protect against "chips" from rocks and stuff thrown up from the road. If you keep your car clean and you wax it a couple times a year you would be fine without the expensive protectorant.
