Default OT: CL-Type S 6 speed

Has anyone else seen the new Car & Driver with the comparison test of the CL-S 6-spd?

Rave reviews for it. They called it the best handling front wheel drive car they've ever tested, hands down. Very high marks. The thing is fast too. 5.9 0-60, 14.6 @ 98 in the 1/4 mile.

I was very suprised. May help really spark the 6-spd sales!

Why do I get the feeling that this comment slipped through the cracks on accident?

i drove one 2 days after they hit the dealers. To say the least it was butter. Very smooth tranny very quick for a heavy coupe. The interior is beautiful and the navigation system is setup very ergonomicly (sp?) and as for handling it actually suprised me it handled very well just as good as my gsr

Yeah, they also tossed the words "production car" in there. Either they do not consider the ITR a production car, forgot about the ITR, or the CL-S, in their opinion, handles better than the ITR!

I am surprised the BMW still won though. I figured the 6spd version with LSD would finally be the car to beat the 3 series.

the one i test drove rode like a damn caddy. too soft, too vague, too disconnected. definately slower than my ITR (I/H/E)

who cares what the magazines say anyway? I mean a prelude won the best handling car under 30k shootout....

I believe the Prelude test of best handling cars under $30K did not include the ITR. If you have driven a Prelude SH, you may agree with me in saying that its handling is pretty close to the ITR, once you get the hang of the ATTS system.

The magazines are a credible source of information, but when it comes to tests like this, a lot relies on their opinions. The best way to decide for yourself is to go out and test the considered cars after reading up on them.

my friend got smoked by one... my friend drives a RX-7 Turbo... a freeway race. They took off at whatever speed it was... probably around 80mph or so and he smoked the CL-S... but then the CL-S began to pull on him hard and just flies by... the go on for miles and miles at speeds well above what any sane person might do... going beyond 150mph... and yet my friend wasnt able to pull up on the guy! However, my friend got scared and let of for a sec... but still, this shows what the CL-S really is capable of! By the way, this was apparantly late at night and deserted freeways... I know its crazy, but it wasnt me, so please, no flames!

Technically the TT-7 and the CL-S have a very similar HP ratings (without any mods).
isnt the RX a lot lighter though?

yep it was the new CL-S... who knows what it had... the car was new with dealer plates...

as far as my friends car being "sad" it runs low 13's for now... he has a turbonetics 60-1 turbo coming along with new manifold, FMIC, and other goodies... tell me how sad thats gonna be.

apparantly the CL-S dominates at high speeds.

It is very quick, but definately isn't "all that" when it comes to handling. Heavy and tons of roll, dont even think of exiting turns wot without ending up 3 lanes over. I personally like this car but to say it is the best handling fron wheel drive car is a totally far fetched. Don't expect to get anywhere in an autox in that thing. Oh yeah, who quoted this Car and Driver...hehe thats funny.
