Need Help***CRX SI w/ B18B1*** How come my speedometer does not work???
Hi i just recently got a B18b1 swapped into my CRX si. But for some reason my speedometer does not work. My RPM gauge works, but not my speedometer. That was my first problem. My second problem is, for some reason, My fuse for turn signals, and cluster keeps on blowing out everytime i switch. What can that be? Everytime i put a new one, everything works for a couple minutes, then the fuse blows, and my signals no longer work, nor my cluster. Can it be the Wiring Harness for the motor? I really need help with this.
Is the speedometer cable plugged into the cluster or transmission. It may have popped out or might not be put in all the way. It may look plugged in but it might not be seated.
What kind of trans are you running first of all?
For the fuse blowing, it sounds like you have a short to ground somewhere.

If you are using a hydro trans they use a VSS sensor instead of a gear driven cable. IF so that could easily be the problem.
Look down towards the rear of the tranny by the firewall to figure out if you have a cable driven speedo, or an electronic VSS. (the VSS has a multi pronged plug, the cable has just a single metal hole) If you have a VSS type, you should be able to drop in a mechanical unit from any crx/civic 5 speed, hook up the cable and be done. If its a cable drive unit, make sure the cable is fitting into the hole all the way, and put the retaining clip in so it cant slip out.. should be good from there.
yeah if your trans is hydro, it has an electric vss. you need a mechanical vss from a b18a transmission to make it work in the ef.

Oh. So this is all because of the transmission? Does it matter if it's hydro or cable? Or as long as it is from B18A it will work?
yes. it does matter that it is hydro. hydro generally has the electric vss on the transmission. you need to unbolt the electric vss from the exterior of the trans case, and bolt in the mechanical one from the b18a, then run the vss cable from your dash to the trans.
you will need to buy a mechanical vss from a b18a, but other than that, you should have all the other parts you need if you didnt remove the vss cable. you *may* also be able to use the d series mechanical vss.. but i have never done that so i cant say if it works.
