Default Auto ECU

I have a buddy with a 91 DX hatch. He is having some problems with his automatic tranny. He is considering doing the 5 speed conversion. I have everything he needs to do the swap except the ecu. I know that the car will run with the auto ecu. My question is: Will this cause any problems other than the check engine light and a code 19.

Thanks in advance.

He plans on doing the mpfi swap as well. Just doesn't have all the parts or funds right now to do so. That is why I am trying to find out if his auto ecu will present any problems.

I really don't think it will be a problem. Sometimes I get a little paranoid about this kind of stuff.

You ought to just go look at the junkyard for an ecu. DX ecus are very common and very, very cheap. I believe that any ecu from an 88 - 91 DX (body style doesn't matter) will work. Look out for the Std. civic (4 speed hatch), though because it may have a different ecu.

I have a b16a in my civic with a automatic ECU it runs fine, and the check engine light doesn't even come on.
A friend of mine has a automatic DX sedan, and I hook up my old si computer to it and it wouldn't even run, I car would barely start, so I don't know just try it
