What Gen is my Accord? Cant find the answer
A few years back there was a sticky with the information I am looking for, but now, I can seem to find it. I appreciate any help. I know your time is valuable. thank you
I have a 1998 Accord EX sedan with 98K miles on it. This is a manual four cylinder.
What gen is this? Found it...6th gen So I can start gathering data
What is the engine?
My VIN is 1HGCG
Im planning to replace the timing belt, water pump, all belts, spark plugs and wires, crank and cam shaft bearings, gasket set, radiator, thermostat. All will be purchased from Honda Automotive Parts.
Should I even bother with replacing the cam and crankshaft bearings?
Can you think of anything else to change while I'm at it?
Good Karma to you

6th gen. Motor : f23A1
your radiator should be fine unless its cracked or not cooling your engine properly. And if your doing a water pump and timing belt you might as well do the Oil pump belt as well. Besides the obvious air filter, cabin filter and oil/oil filter change you should be fine with what you've got there.

Thank you...you listed things I totally forgot about and some I didnt even think of. WOW...you saved me.
The guide to basic accord sticky is helpful. Furthermore, I am planning to shell out the dough for the Helms manual. It is about time I started working on the car. After all, it has been very good to me. The LA library doesnt seem to have the helms for use...darn.
Anyone else please chime in. thank you again

Its overkill x10, but I would personally replace every seal I could get my hands on. I'm just overly cautious cuz i've been screwed too many times on jobs I just did.
What other seals are there? I thought that was the only two.
I was a big contributor to the Civic side, but now I need the Karma for my Accord. Thanks again.
Any great links for "how to" or write up to all this would be most appreciated. I am looking now and gathering the data.
many many thanks

You can read the engine type stamped in the block right next to the tranny.

I don't believe the camshaft HAS bearings, except the line-bored journals that are machined into the head.
You didn't mention the balancer-shaft belt, but that goes right along with the timing belt.
