So I have a B18a1 with basic bolt ons in the car, clutch and lightweight flywheel both made by ACT. Now when I shift into third gear it grinds SOMETIMES but not all the time. and when I open it up and shift it grinds 3rd and 4th, a little birdy told me its my "throw bearing" thats causing it, when i think its just hte clutch. What do you guys think it could be? I was also considering that the synchronizers are just out of alignment. I am planning on rebuilding it anyway, just thought i would fix it before I go to the EF meet on the 16th
When you shift does it only grind at higher RPM's or does it do it all the time?
It's really common for our old cable trannies to grind so try throwing in some GM synchromesh. Should cure most if not all the problem....You can get it at autozone in the gear oil section, Comes in a Yellow bottle and is made by penzoil.

yeah 3rd Yes 3rd and 4th grind everytime when i beat on it. but when im just rollin through town third gear just kinda like gets that stuck feeling and grinds.
I bet the synchro's are starting to go out...Try putting in some GM synchromesh and see how it reacts. It should cure the problem but if it doesn't its time for either a rebuild or the search for another cable trans.
