altenator question
The wire that comes off the post of the altenatoe has some how got hot enough to melt the wires
Has anyone ever had this happen?
Is it because my altenator is over charging?
The reason why I found this is bause i went to get in my car and it was dead and I have a brand new optima battery

The nut that holds on the wire could have been loose and arcing. Or the copper inside the wires somewhere could be broken partially creating resistance in the line and it got real hot. Check the resistance in the wire with a ohm meter. Or if you have a system in the car it could just be using too much power and demanding too much from the alternator.
I do have a system but I have had it for awhile and never had this problem I checked the nut on the altenator it was tight.
Can I take a wire and run it form the altenator the battery to make sure that the batteryis getting charged?
