my brothers 91 accord is having fuel delivery issues....what happened was we were driving around trying to get vtec to engage (this was the original problem) when all of the sudden the car just died....we let it sit for about 5 minutes then it started again but died another 10 ft. up the road...now it just cranks and does not start...it does not smell like fuel, the fuel pump DOES NOT prime before i turn the key, and the car does start if i spray starter flued into the throttle body...
i already replaced the main relayand it still has the same problem...my question for you guys is if there is anything else i should check before i drop the gas tank out to replace the fuel pump...i would really hate to do all that work and that not solve the problem....
any suggestions as to why vtec wont engage would be appreciated as well...the car throws two codes...22 and 23 (knock sensor and vtec pressure switch)...does this mean i need a new vtec solinoid?
thanks in advance for all of your help

Not sure on the VTEC stuff...that's really not my forte.
Far as the gas issue you basically answered your own question. If its not priming then you have a problem (make sure you are getting power and its not just a fuse or something). Beat on the tank with a hammer while trying to crank it and see if it starts. This isn't always the case, but if it starts up you have a bad pump.
Before you drop the tank look under the carpet in the trunk. On my 96 at least you can get to the pump without dropping the tank. Takes all of 5 minutes!

Look for access panels under the back seat or under the trunk floor. Maybe you can't remove the pump that way, but if you can get to the pump's wiring you can check whether it's getting power. A good main relay won't help if the wires are broken...
If it's NOT getting power, you could bring temporary power from the battery to verify the pump actually works. Then trouble-shoot the circuit.

Use a single wire from the battery (+) to the pump. If it runs, then you know your ground is OK. Finding broken wires buried in the wiring harness is a big PITA.
Go back to the main relay. Does it actually produce battery voltage at the proper pin for the fuel pump?

thanks for the advice...i actually got the car running a few hours ago...and it was exactally what you said...there was a break in the wire somewhere along the way between the relay and the fuel pump...i got frustrated and just ran a new wire and bingo it started up...
i still cant get any vtec though...i got rid of the code 22 and all i have now is a knock sensor code (23)
