before going to tune my car...
Does it run? I'm not trying to be a dick, but if it starts and runs, you should be good. Have the guys at the shop check it out for you before they tune it, they will be able to help you better. What have you done to your car?
yeah everything that they said. Unfortunately you will find out if anything is wrong on the dyno which sucks. A street tune with a wideband would be good before going to the dyno. Many ppl don't agree with me but it helped me solve my problem by myself. I took me 5 tries at the dyno before I figured out my problem and I had everyone helping me, from guys with tech engineering degrees to guys with 9 sec Civics. Turned out my problem was a $5 part (stock fuel damper on the fuel rail ). Fixing a problem in front of your house with no presure on you is much easier than fixing it on the dyno with the tuner, friends, and strangers, watching you (trust me). You don't really have to fine tune it on the street just make sure everything is working right under a little load.
Make sure everything is in good working order. Have a couple sets of spark plugs. Make sure all your hoseclamps and couplers are tight. Make sure your fuel pressure and base timing are what they should be. Bring some tools with you in case you have to reconnect couplers, etc while tuning. If you have adjustable cam gears, make sure they're accessible(cut valvecover, removed/cut timing cover, etc) and you have the right tools to adjust them. Check with your tuner and see if they have a specific checklist of things you should go over prior to the tune.

you can buy a compression tester at most local autopart places. Do a search and you will find some threads on how to properly use one.
Just make sure you have the basics covered. Top off the oil, bring an extra set of plugs (correct heat range), and make sure you have the key to your wheels or any other misc items. You never know what is going to break or happen when your beating on the ride.
