1992 Honda Civic EG Hatch...brakes SOMETIMES go all the way to the floor at a stop...need help befor
I have a 92 Honda Civic EG Hatch, the problem is brake related. The first time this happened was back in November. The brake went all the way down to the floor, but the next pump, they were back to normal. It never happened again until the last couple of weeks, and it only happens SOMETIMES, and only ever ONCE, and the next pump on the brakes it works and it feels normal. I need to fix this problem but hate to go in and get swindled into a full on brake job b/c i'm a woman. Can I do maintenance myself or check for signs if its' just the brakes need to be bled, or the brake booster or perhaps the calipers...what do I look for on my own? Any and all help would be appreciated.
ps...since a few weeks ago it happens more frequently, no i'm not driving it b/c i'm scared for them to fail completely.

wrong forum have a mod move it to the 92-2000 forum...but regardless it sounds like a problem with you master cylinder...gl
you can pull back the carpet in the drivers foot well look at the brake pedal follow it up and to where it goes through the fire wall. Look around where it goes through the fire wall for any signs of fluid that is a dead give away that the MC is leaking and needs to be replaced. 2nd with the car off press the brake pedal keep pressure on it if it sinks all the way to the floor then the MC is bad or you have a leak somewhere in the system. 3rd If you have the knowledge jack up the car and remove the wheels look for signs of brake fluid leaking from around the calipers. that's all I can think of right now.
Ok, when the car is off, the pedal is stiff...it DOES NOT go down to the floor...I will check for leaking tonightand post again if I need more help...thanks!
