Default help please, temperature way up

ok so i have a 92 accord lx, and recently the temp has been running really high, i would start the car and it would be normal then by the time i got a mile down the road the guage would read almost redline, so i went in and started checking things out, at first i had a suspicion about the thermostat but i tested is and its good, i know my fans arnt working so my question is, the fans not running, would that really cause the engine to heat up that quickly? or is there something else that would be causing this? also to fix the fans, i checked the fuses and the relays, there good so my next guess would be the radiator fan switch? or is there something else i should check first? thats all for now, any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks for your time

I know on my Accord before. It had over heating problems. The temp gauge went up all the way. But after I wash the engine bay, the gauge worked fine. It's like one of those lucky finds. I would see if the temp sensor is fine. and see if your fan actually works. (hook up a 12V battery (car) and see if it actually works. If not replace your fan switch.

you said you check your thermostat, how exactly did you do that? If you removed it from the engine, and reinstalled it, I would look for air in the coolant system and bleed it out, with the heater on full heat, and any setting EXCEPT defrost. The fan wouldent cause it to overheat in 1 mile, but over distance (mostly stop and go with no air flow) it will over heat.
