can you explain how this avoids putting wear marks on the journals, and what journals are, for those of us that have no idea what you are talking about.
btw I can tell that is a camshaft though whoohoooo!!

Mine look the same. But I shut my car off whenever.
Oh, and my cams are OE.
Nice cams, tho. Even though they are B's.

What do your cylinders/valves look like after idling for long periods though? Lots of unburnt combustion products gum up and stick there, no?
Manufacturers generally recommend against idling for prolonged periods of times for this reason, in addition to the fact that oil starvation can occur easily at idle since oil pressure is low.

I don't think any carbon is anywhere near Yack's motor...

I've heard mixed things about warming up and cooling off your car. If you start your can and let it idle, your engine oil might be heating up, but your tranny oil isn't. I think the best thing to do is turn on the car, and drive away a few seconds later. But take it easy til the car is warmed up.
Someone that lives near me always revs the engine right before he turns the car off. Can anyone explain why he might do this?

. i don't think there is any good reason, just revving the engine for the hell of it.
honda says the best way to warm up a car is to drive it normally. normally means not revving too high like 3 grand shifts

It is supposed to get the fluids moving faster right before shut off so that you can get more oil stuck in your engine. This way when you start it the next time, it already has lube in important places.
I dont think this is an issue on newer cars though.
